About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the most of unemployment

ABOUT ME

My name's Steph, and I've just finished studying graphic design and I've got a lot of time on my hands due to heavy aversion to getting a job and generally being an adult.

At time of messaging people, I will be embarking on a very vague cycle tour of Europe and looking for lovely people and places to meet and stay! I will be equipped with a huge bike and lots of kit, so can't promise I'll be the freshest of guests but I'll certainly try my best!
It also means I'll most definitely only be wanting to stay 1 night, if maybe 2 at most to do some cleaning up and moving on! Any advice for routes also very welcome.

I'm a quiet and tidy guest and will help with cooking etc if need be! I'll have a sleeping bag with me too from camping.

PHILOSOPHY

I constantly quote to myself a line from On The Road, which is 'The whole world opened up before me because I had no dreams'. This sounds pessimistic but I see it as optimistic since I kinda read it as 'never mind expectations- do what you want', and that's fully how I intend to live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm currently looking to surf sofas as a way of seeing a place a bit differently to the norm and meet people who're like minded. I'm up for hanging out with other members in the general Bristol area, although can't offer my sofa since I live in a very small flat with my folks!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a member of warm showers and have had some lovely experiences with that already.

Interests

Making things- anything- whether it be cooking or baking, making my own bookmarks or just taking photos. I always have a sketchbook close just in case.

Cycling- I love my bike so much I'm traveling on it! I've spent a long time fixing punctures and changing tyres so feel vaguely proficient at it now.

The outdoors- as I hope my photos show, I love me a good tree! I love walking, mountains and my trusty walking boots.

Music, Movies, and Books

Listening to lots of fuzzy rock, or dreamy experimental music (hate trying to describe music genres!). My taste changes all the time! I love live music and watching people play instruments, and aim to seek out a good bit of live music everywhere. No music is written off, in my opinion!

I've been watching a lot of 'classic' films recently such as the Terminators and Robocop, and also had a strong 80's horror phase. Other films I've recently enjoyed have been Only Lovers Left Alive and Kill Your Darlings. Dislikes action films (besides superhero Marvel-types), and romantic comedies.

Good books I've read recently are Grapes of Wrath, The Plague and The Mandarins by Beauvoir. I also loved House of Leaves, Jude the Obscure and To Kill a Mockingbird. Generally always reading a book. Also have passing attachments to the poets Dylan Thomas, e.e. cummings and of course, Shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I participated in building a playground in Uganda. There's not one aspect of that that wasn't amazing (cockroach infested long drops included!).

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to draw things from real life, and am rarely without my sketchbook and a biro. No perfecting mistakes! I also know a lot about typography, general art (and all the umbrella categories), and love to discuss people and human nature (though I have nothing to teach in that respect, but am always looking to learn!)

Can't speak any other languages besides English (typical!), though I'm willing to give it a shot and am sure we'll find a way to communicate! I'm a big believer in the ability to communicate across all plans.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Scotland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Uganda
