About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find the world's best cup of coffee. And other stuff.

ABOUT ME

Is it just me, or does this section feel like a hybrid between a professional cover letter and an online dating profile? What's the difference? The mind boggles...Anyway, I'm kind of a tird-bird right now. I'm in the midst of completing my thesis and once that's done (sometime in August '14), huh, I don't know. I'd like to travel around, clear my academically cluttered head and just take this (final) opportunity to do cool things before I have to really settle down (if I ever truly "settle down"). I like going to new places and trying to blend in like a local. If you can help me with my ethnographical ambitions, awesome! Otherwise, I'm really good company, especially if you like listening to new wave records and watching Ultimate Warrior highlights.

PHILOSOPHY

I'll sleep tomorrow.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, my friends' couches in various cities in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Otherwise, I'm a naive novice here.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Wes Anderson, Werner Herzog, Planes Trains & Automobiles, True Stories, Annie Hall, Wet Hot American Summer, Coen Bros., American Movie...so much more. I just saw Obvious Child and it was pretty wonderful.

Music:Tears For Fears, Talking Heads, XTC, Devo, Destroyer, Yeasayer, The National, Neko Case, Cat Power, The Vels, Yo La Tengo, Huey Lewis, Nick Lowe, Kraftwerk, that one Dum Dum Girls record, New Pornographers, Wye Oak, Django Django, Haim, Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac. There's more, I'm just tired of listing bands right now. Sorry.

Books: Selected works by Sam Lipsyte and Paul Auster, A Confederacy of Dunces, Catcher in the Rye, Wilson (Daniel Clowes), Drinking At The Movies (Julia Wertz), and a whole lotta media studies text books...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived and worked in Sydney, Australia for a summer. The city's amazing and spending the weekends exploring the country (I.e. Hiking through the Blue Mountains) was extraordinary. Also, the bats were massive!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Mass Media, Cultural Studies, German, Literature, Public Speaking (things I've literally taught and would be willing to share)

Learn: Everything...except for maybe mathematics....
