Hello! My name is Steven Zaguate : )

In Costa Rica "zaguate" is a dog without breed, without direction and without an owner.

I'm an artist, cultural manager and educator. I'm also a defender of human rights and the environment. I don't believe in borders and I trust in the power of art to change the world.

Internally, I'm highly critical and reflective. I have an optimistic outlook of life and I try to be in peace with everything around me. I also think that we are the energy that we project and in that aspect I like to be "good vibes" for those who are around me.

2020 was a spiritual test of detachment in which I decided to leave everything, throw myself into the void and travel the world generating artistic and cultural experiences. This new trip represents my biggest personal and professional challenge; besides being a spiritual reencounter with myself: I need to get lost before I find myself again.

I don't bite and also don't have fleas. I am a loving dog who likes to play, eats almost anything and that can sleep in any corner. Will you adopt me for a few days?

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Steven Zaguate : )

En Costa Rica un "zaguate" es un perro sin raza, sin rumbo y sin dueño.

Soy artista, gestor cultural y educador. También soy defensor de los derechos humanos, el ambiente y la libertad. No creo en fronteras y confío en el poder del arte para cambiar el mundo.

A lo interno soy altamente crítico y reflexivo. Tengo una visión optimista ante la vida y procuro estar en paz con todo lo que me rodea. También pienso en que somos la energía que proyectamos y en ese aspecto me gusta ser "buena vibra" para quienes están a mi alrededor.

El 2020 fue una prueba espiritual de desapego ante la que decidí dejarlo todo, lanzarme al vacío y viajar por el mundo generando experiencias artísticas y culturales. Este nuevo viaje representa mi mayor reto personal y profesional; además de ser un reencuentro espiritual conmigo mismo: necesito perderme para encontrarme.

No muerdo y no tengo pulgas. Soy cariñoso, me gusta jugar, como casi cualquier cosa y puedo dormir en cualquier rincón. ¿Podrás adoptarme por unos días?

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

First of all because I looooove traveling and I think the best way to know the culture of a place is through the people who inhabit it. I'd rather go and taste the local flavor than joining a crowd into a tourist attraction. The time that I've been traveling through this platform has shown it to me, since it has been full of beautiful and invaluable experiences that money cannot buy.

On the other hand, Couchsurfing has been shaped as a successful solidarity economy. Part of my work has consisted of promoting solidarity economies in different areas and I bet on them because I consider them the future of the economy: the less we depend on money to exchange goods and services, the more opportunities for equity and accessibility we can offer to human beings in this planet. I love the platform, I agree with its philosophy and I applaud the people who open the doors of their house and their hearts to us.

Primero que todo porque aaaaaamo viajar y creo que la mejor manera de conocer la cultura del lugar es a través de las personas que lo habitan. Prefiero probar el sabor local antes que aglomerarme en un atractivo turístico. El tiempo que llevo viajando a través de esta plataforma me lo ha demostrado, ya que ha estado lleno de bellísimas e invaluables experiencias que el dinero no puede comprar.

El segundo motivo es porque Couchsurfing se conforma como una economía solidaria exitosa. Parte de mi trabajo ha consistido en promover economías solidarias en diferentes áreas y apuesto por ellas porque las considero el futuro de la economía: entre menos dependamos del dinero para intercambiar bienes y servicios, más posibilidades de equidad y accesibilidad podremos ofrecer a los seres humanos de este planeta. Me encanta la plataforma, concuerdo con su filosofía y aplaudo a las personas que nos abren las puertas de su casa y su corazón.

I like being outside, interacting and always in movement; constantly looking for a new adventure.

I'm also project manager, which I consider is the art of turning dreams into reality. I love the process of taking an idea and materialize it. I could get the word "project" tattooed on my forehead.

I cannot conceive the world without music and I ADORE dancing. I also seek to connect with the art and culture of the places I go. I like to get lost with my camera in cities I don't know... and from time to time I write some nice thing.

I'm very interested in doing good to others, promoting this way of living among the people that surrounds me and generating projects around altruistic causes.

I also like to philosophize, practice yoga, meditate and all that stuff that helps you to maintain internal balance. I practice the "let's have a coffee" therapy.

And if you say "party", the answer is "yes!" XD

Me gusta estar afuera, interactuando y siempre en movimiento; constantemente buscando una nueva aventura.

También soy gestor de proyectos, lo considero al arte de convertir los sueños en realidad. Me encanta el proceso de tomar una idea y materializarla en el espacio. Podría tatuarme la palabra "proyecto" en la frente.

No concibo el mundo sin música y me fascina bailar. También busco conectar con el arte y la cultura de los lugares a los que voy. Me gusta perderme con mi cámara en ciudades que no conozco... y de vez en cuando escribo alguna cosa bonita.

Me interesa mucho hacer el bien a los demás, promover esta manera de vivir entre quienes me rodean y generar proyectos alrededor de causas altruistas.

Además me gusta filosofar, practicar yoga, meditar y todas esas cosas que ayudan a mantener el equilibrio interno. Practico la terapia de "vamos por un café".

Y si mencionás la palabra "fiesta", la respuesta es "¡sí!" XD

Música, películas y libros

Music:

I'm a music producer, I like to sing and I'm learning to play the piano. My passion for music is always in exploring and discovering new songs, genres, and artists. The term "underground" always catches my ear. My musical taste is very broad, however my greatest connection is with Argentinian rock.

Movies:

I love that cinema called "alternative" or at least movies with some valuable content. I like the disturbing endings of French cinema, the irony of Spanish comedy, and I love to see Latin America wallowing in its own misery. I never get tired of watching "Malena" and I always cry in the final scene of "Titanic" haha.

Books:

Definitely my favorite genre is Latin American naturalism. At this day I still don't know a descriptive capacity like the one of García Márquez. My favorite book is "Love in Times of Cholera". I also read a lot of theory and geek stuff of all kinds. I'm one of those guys who's always carrying a book through his life.

Música:

Soy productor musical, me gusta cantar y estoy aprendiendo a tocar el piano. Mi pasión por la música está siempre en explorar y descubrir nuevas canciones, géneros y artistas. El término "underground" siempre llama mi atención. Mi gusto musical es muy amplio, sin embargo mi mayor conexión es con el rock argentino.

Cine:

Me encanta ese cine que llaman "alternativo" o al menos las películas con algún contenido valioso. Me gustan los perturbadores finales del cine francés, la ironía de la comedia española y adoro ver a Latinoamérica revolcándose en su propia miseria. No me canso de ver "Malena" y siempre lloro en la escena final de "Titanic" jaja.

Libros:

Definitivamente mi género favorito es el naturalismo latinoamericano. A la fecha no conozco una capacidad descriptiva como la de García Márquez. Mi libro favorito es "Amor en tiempos del cólera". También leo mucha teoría y ñoñadas de todo tipo. Soy de esos chicos que siempre andan cargando un libro por la vida.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Organizing in one week a whole day international arts festival in a strike-teacher's camp in Chiapas with $15 of budget. The name was "Teacher, you made me artist"

I also was hit by a train... and survived! XD

También fui atropellado por un tren... ¡y sobreviví! XD

For me, time is the most valuable good that human beings have and the experiences in which you invest that time define the value you give to every second.

Para mi el tiempo es el bien más valioso que tiene el ser humano y las experiencias en las que invertís ese tiempo definen el valor que le das a cada segundo.

Yo te ofrezco compartir buenos tiempos y vivir lindas experiencias. Ya sea salir a caminar, cocinar juntes, subir una montaña o ver llover por la ventana; te comparto mi corazón, mi sonrisa y mis buenas energías.
