About Me

Hi everyone,
my name is Mareike, I grew up in a sleepy town in the beautiful lake district in north-eastern Germany, then lived in pretty Galway (Ireland) and mind-blowing Kundapura (South India) for a year each and then studied in Berlin and Uppsala (Sweden). Now I am moving to Mainz (Germany) where I will start my first job in November. I also really like to travel, to go to festivals and concerts, to drink wine and gin tonic and to eat chocolate cake and asian food. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Even though it doesn't show on my profile (because its new... because my old account was deactived and lost...) I already couchsurfed a bit (in Paris, Marseille and Aahus) and I really liked these experiences. I always regretted that I couldn't host others because I only had one single room but I guess in the near future I will get my own flat and thus be able to host people myself. :) I really think that this is how travelling should work!
Now that I am moving into a new city I would like to meet new people through the couchsurfing community and get to know what Mainz has to offer.

Interests

I like to talk about politics and the state of the world, am interested in sustainable transformation, personal change, Buddhism, and all kinds of helpfull wisdoms and I am passionate about environmental protection and organic farming.
Among my many interest lies sport ( indoor climbing, volleyball, yoga, dancing), handicrafts (like sewing, drawing, knitting, upcycling.), vegetarian and vegan cooking and travelling.
My last travel was a two-week bike trip from Uppsala (Sweden) to Flensburg (Germany) with a friend - where we mostly wild-camped (wrongly) and couch surfed once.
I think the best way to have a holiday is to go wwoofing because it offers a combination of beautiful scenery, often very inspiring co-workers and hosts, physically demanding but mentally relaxing work, great food and time to read. My last wwofing experience was on a flower and medicinal plant farm in Sweden.

Music, Movies, and Books

The last books I read and liked: Americanah (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie) and Presence. Human Purpose and the Field of the Future (Senge, Scharmer, Jaworski, Flowers).

Teach, Learn, Share

As I like to cook I am always interested in new vegetarian recipes.I could maybe teach some South Indian recipes that I collected during my time in India. I would like to share and listen to travelling stories, talk and learn about ways how to make this world a better, more sustainable place. I am always interested in finding new folk/singer songwriter music and well-done films. I am a good companion when it comes to going to concerts, films and art exhibitions.
