ABOUT ME
I'm a new author, an academic (behavior analysis and biopsychology, with an engineering background), a birder, and a longtime environmental and social justice activist. Here's a brief description from my blog: "I'm a scientific generalist with advanced degrees in both engineering and psychology. I'm also an experienced naturalist. My blog will take the same broad, inclusive perspective that I tried to bring to my book. The idea is to be interdisciplinary, integrating information across different areas to make sense of everything. Many years ago, John Brunner wrote about this activity in his scifi classic Stand on Zanzibar, calling his hero a "synthesist." I thought when I read it how cool that job sounded. I was right . . ." For more information about me, see the Author page on my website, www.scienceofconsequences.com.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Enjoying election night with my fellow volunteers after working for the Obama campaign in 2008 in Miami, FL.
A farewell party my friends put on when I moved away from Morgantown, WV.
Hearing a kokako sing in his native New Zealand rainforest. (I taught and did research in NZ for a year and a half.) The kokako is considered to have one of the most beautiful bird voices in the world (I agree).
Finding an agent who agreed to take on my first book (after over a year of searching).
