Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love hearing people laugh and discuss ideas around a great meal. I love hearing the symphony of the woods, the ocean, the city at play. I take pictures and make films to understand our world and share with my communities.
Growing up, I never understood why hotels existed. We had family everywhere, and my father made sure we'd visit them when we did our road trips across America. Warm cinnamon buns in Washington DC, hot tea in Oklahoma after a rain storm, fresh salads in sunny California were all part of childhood. Only as an adult did I realize what hotels were all about.
New to the CS site, but have been reading about it and excited it's catching on. My family is filled with amazing hosts and chefs with impeccable presentation skills and style. I've got the gift of hospitality deep in my DNA.
A fresh strawberry picked at the peak of the season; learning a new language; hearing a new song; dancing; taking pictures that capture a moment; making up songs for my husband.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a filmmaker so I have more movies in my head to make than there are movies I've loved. My favorite documentary is called "4 Elements" and my current film explorations have me traveling to the classic era of Hollywood cinema with films like "Bringing up Baby." My husband is a great musician of Turkish and Greek traditions, and I add to his collection a healthy dose of pop, Salsa, and the blues. We both like baroque and classical music. With books, I love memoir.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbing through Petra, Jordan, before sunrise, then watching the sun's rays glow across the stone, as the hue transformed from orange to pink to gold in seconds. Driving through Iceland to take in the glaciers, waterfalls, and sulfuric springs, while camping one night in the midnight sun. Waiting by the docks in a small fishing town in north Iceland to buy fish for my sick husband, and finding a red-faced fisherman give me 2 fish for 1 kiss on the cheek.
Teach, Learn, Share
Photography tips; cooking lessons; Arabic dancing moves; how to say hello in Turkish and sing a drinking song from the Ottoman Empire.
I'd love to learn how to play your national anthem on the kazoo.
