About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Tour of France and Spain

ABOUT ME

I just graduated from college (Emory University in Atlanta, GA) a few months ago (!) and next year, I will be attending the University of Toronto as a PhD candidate in the Classics. I really love what I study (mostly Greek and Latin) and one day, I want to be a teacher, so that I can help save my field from being forgotten for one more generation.

PHILOSOPHY

You can't go wrong following the Cardinal Virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Justice, and Courage. I also like the Theological Virtue of Love and the Stoic Virtue of Imperturbability.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now, I'm a traveler. But one day when I have a home of my own, I'd love to host people too.

Interests

I love studying languages, especially dead ones like Latin, Sanskrit, and Ancient Greek, but also living ones like French and Italian. I also like reading, watching Dr. Who, exercising, playing with my dog Wuvvy, and making pastries with my girlfriend Hayley.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like too many movies, but if I had to choose something, I would say Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings.

I like a lot of different styles of music. Some representative favorites are Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Taylor Swift, and George Strait.

My favorite books are East of Eden by John Steinbeck, For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway, and Homer's Iliad, of course.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once watched my best friend jump from a bridge down onto a (stationary) traincar below filled with sand.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think the three things I know well enough to teach are languages (primarily Latin and Greek, but maybe a little Hebrew and Sanskrit), exercise (mostly movements and lifts learned from CrossFit), and baking (pastries, pies, etc.). The things I want to learn more about are actually the same things: languages (French, Italian, Spanish, and anything really), exercise (gymnastics, powerlifting, sprinting, etc.), and baking.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Dominican Republic, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Peru, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
