About Me

ABOUT ME

The sort of person who really likes couchsurfing as both an activity and an ideology - laid-back, likes to travel and meet new people, and probably most other other description box clichés you see thrown around.

I'm a biochemist, vegan, secular humanist, musician, and human being.

PHILOSOPHY

Secular humanism, reverent agnosticism - I live for love, experience, and knowledge, and for my better half Charlotte.

Interests

Music; hiking/walking/camping; deep ecology; science; vegan cooking; ancient history, mythology and folklore; wildlife and conservation; moral philosophy; reading and story-telling; reading Old English and Old Norse; wine, mead, and beer; learning, talking, living...

I think our world is amazing and knowledge is one of the most precious gifts, so would be happy to have a good conversation/talk about almost anything (or equally just listen & learn).

Music, Movies & Books

Snorri Sturluson, Tolkien, Shakespeare, John Zerzan, Derrick Jensen, Paul Woodruff, George RR Martin, Tony Wilkinson, Stephen Pollington, Kathleen Herbert, William Gass, Proust, Kevin Crossley-Holland, Conn Iggulden, Tolstoy, Edgar Allan Poe, Sun Tsu, Robin Hobb, Thomas Kuhn, Doreen Valiente, Gerald Durrell... lots of Old English (Beowulf, Ser Gwain) and Old Norse too.

I mostly listen to black metal, folk, ambient/drone, electronic, and hardcore, but most genres "go".

Ulver, Agalloch, Amenra, Birch Book, In Gowan Ring, Wolves in the Throne Room, Bjork, Enslaved, Ifing, Saor, Jon Hopkins, Maudlin of the Well, :of the wand and the moon:, Pink Floyd, Tenhi, Tim Hecker, Vali, Altar of Plagues, Boreal, Cloudkicker, Current 93, Darkthrone, GY!BE, Karl Sanders, Krallice, Mutiilation, Marissa Nadler, Opeth, Rahu, Ruined Families, Sun Kil Moon, Sun Worship, The Haxan Cloak, The Tea Party, Wardruna, Woman is the Earth, Worm Ouroboros, *shels, Animals As Leaders, Drudkh, Hexvessel, Neurosis, Weakling, Thou, Black Monolith, Grand Magus(...), Les Halles, Alio Die, Venn Rain, Vindensang, Musk Ox...

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I think these things are best born again in the minds of listeners.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm interested in/happy to share knowledge about biochemistry and genetics, ecology, birdwatching and nature, folklore and mythology, Old English/Old Norse, paganism, ancient history... I've played guitar for 9 years (electric and 9-string ERG), and also play the tin whistle and kalimba, and would love to teach, share, or jam on most instruments.

It would be cool to share music (whatever moves you) and vegan cooking ideas...

I'm learning French (strong intermediate but pretty rusty) and Norwegian (bokmål - beginner, but actively progressing), and would enjoy the opportunity to talk, learn or share a little of these languages.
