About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My son has graduated high school! He is enlisting in our military so I must give him a last definitive memory of special father/ son time. Next time I see him, he will be an adult. This may be my last opportunity to show him how it's done!

ABOUT ME

I was born the middle son of a pair of Kansas parents. They migrated to Tucson and the family has been rooted here ever since. Even as a child I loved the concept of travelling and discovery. It's been a passion that, until recently, has eluded and teased me. I fathered a beautiful son at 20 years old and spent some time in the Army. I didn't find my real calling until I started working wildland fires for the Forest Service. From there, I lateraled into structure fire and EMS. The job challenges me daily and I love it. In 2001, my niece was graduating high school. I told her if she graduated on the honor roll I'd take her anywhere she wanted to go. She chose a backpacking trip through Europe and it was the beginning of something huge for me. I've been travelling internationally ever since and now it's my son's turn! He chose Brazil and I couldn't be more pleased or excited. The journey continues!

PHILOSOPHY

The long-time fave has been "work hard, play harder". Ah, one that's served me well: "Good judgement comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgement".
In essence, I'm here to learn and share. The more I learn, the more I appreciate others' perspective.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have only just signed up for the CS project but I love everything I've read thus far! I am very excited to meet people at their place or my own! I feel Tucson has a lot to offer to those who are willing to look...especially if you're into the outdoors.
On the flip side, I am anticipating huge personal growth by learning so much about other cultures and regions first hand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I said, I am new at this but I have a friend who's been a member for awhile now. She took me to a party/gathering a couple of years ago and enjoyed myself immensely. Felt perfectly at home with perfect strangers. Looking forward to making more memories.

Interests

Music and travelling are the biggies. Also anything outdoors including hiking, climbing/rappelling,camping, fishing, hunting, etc. I have lots of little interest... I find shiny objects interesting, what can I say.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Grew up with the hair-rock 80's music. Love the blues, hard rock, classic rock, a bit of jazz, studied classical in college, mariachi's fun but I gotta have a margarita. Movies: Hollywood is cool but once in a while I gotta sink my teeth into a good indie. Books: I read anything. Constantly trading.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm... I had a Murray Eel swim through my hands while scuba diving in Honduras! That was pretty cool. I may change this later, tho.

Teach, Learn, Share

Ha! This one has served me well... I hate looking for laundromats when travelling. I actually pack a ziploc bag of detergent, a long cord, clothespins, and a drain stopper. Taking time out in the comfort of your hotel or b&b, then stringing up your clothes throughout your room beats looking for, then hanging out at (if its open)a laundromat.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Honduras, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In
