À propos de moi

I'm a 26-year-old that can easily turn into an 18-year-old. I'm indeed for all kinds of fun, childish as well as grown-up, and being a passionate beer-loving person myself, I swear I will always be up for a pint or two.

I've got a degree in political science, but I'm trying my genuine hardest to not end up working in the McDonald's as they frequently warn me. That said, I was bold enough to get into African studies, which I've recently graduated from, and now am putting all my niche knowledge to use in Addis Ababa, while working for UNESCO.

Having volunteered in Ugandan kindergartens for a few months, studied in Kenya for half a year and interned in Ethiopia for three months, I'd like to say I've seen it all, but can you ever...? I still have a Myanmar or a Burundi in me, hopefully.

I'd like to think I've got a creative mind, so to speak, and a sense of responsibility too. I used to help out with creating and organising games at summer/winter camps and I write about football regularly (don't yawn yet!), being a senior editor at a major Czech website.

I really do enjoy putting those letters and words next to each other, but above all, I truly believe football has this unique power to connect people of different cultures, which is also something I often address in my articles.

Now, fancy a little quote to top this whole introduction off? Here you go:
"Once you label me, you negate me." - Søren Kierkegaard

And another one? No problem:
"Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music:
Not picky at all, not one bit - one day I'll tune in for some old school punk, next day I might be seen listening to musicals or Celine Dion.

Movies & TV:
I've got a soft spot for Irish dark comedy where I always find some philosophical bits that speak to me. Beside that, French romcom as well as Pierre Richard classics hardly ever fail my taste.
My peculiar sense of humour has been polished by the great works of Graham Linehan (Black Books, IT Crowd, Father Ted), and overall, you could say 'britcom' is very much my thing. I consider myself a bit of a gourmet when it comes to stand-up comedy and sketch shows - for any recommendation from these types of comedy, knock on my doors. Even literally :)

Books:
Back in my high school days, I've fallen in love with existentialism, and to date, whenever I find the time (which is, sadly, rather rare due to the amount of books I need to read for school seminars and other work), it remains my go-to kind of literature. I used to read a lot of Dan Brown, but I won't go there, since you would judge me harshly!

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

There are two obvious candidates, sorry for that.

1) Extreme rafting on the Nile river in Jinja, Uganda - something of an adrenaline bomb for me. I would never do a bungee, and this proved to be a great compromise.

2) Climbing Mt. Kenya - almost a 5k, almost the highest mountain in Africa (only second to Mt. Kilimanjaro). Do I need to say more?

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

Having spent some 12 months or so in East Africa, staying in the countryside as well as living in a crowdy capital, and always - at all costs - trying to blend with locals, I dare to say I'm full of exciting stories from destinations largely unexperienced by Europeans.

I also know my ways around Addis Ababa, having been based here for months now, and so I can put you in touch with locals as well as expats, point you in the direction of the liveliest bars, most authentic (and not touristy) restaurants, etc. ;)
