About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel as much as possible and work as little as possible

ABOUT ME

I was born here and still live in this beautiful city of San Diego. Yes I've traveled alot and still think coming home to my hometown is wonderful. I started traveling in the early 1970's in Mexico and Europe and spent 9 mos. backpacking in Europe. I've managed to go back to most of the countries I originally visited and much more. I have been to China, New Zealand, Peru, Costa Rica, Morrocco, Turkey, Thailand, and more. My next trip is Iceland, where my father's family was from originally and possibly Australia in 2012. My son and his family live in Maui, Hawaii so I visit there regularly. I'm from a warm climate and like to stay in mostly warm areas when I visit. I love animals and have 2 dogs and 2 birds. I love to be outdoors and do alot of hiking and camping activities. Southern Ca. is great for many wonderful hiking and camping areas.

PHILOSOPHY

To live life to it's fullest now and take those opportunities for enriching your life as it comes so you have no regrets. There is more for me to learn in life each day that I live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had several great couch surfing experiences and hope to provide a bed and be a great host soon. I have been asked several times but always when I was already on my way out the door for a trip. Since i wrote that, I've hosted some very nice people from CS and we usually manage to help each other out in different ways ,usuallly learning something from each other. Just the kind of experiences I hoped to find with Couchsurfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just got back from 2 very wonderful couchsurfing experiences in Iceland. I stayed 2 nights with a couple who were very gracious and generous , giving me a room and sending me off each day with Icelandic food. Then 2 nights with a single MD who lived very conveniently in downtown Rekjavic and we had a great exchange of learning each others medical communities.I really enjoyed my stay in Iceland as I also did a group tour of the island. I have done 1 house exchange with a couple who live above Lake Geneva in Switzerland. We did a 3 week exchange and exchanged vehicles also. I was able to tour all around Switzerland in their car. They were in SD for the Golf Open. It was a wonderful experience.

Interests

I love to travel and go whenever I have the time even if it's just the weekend. I like camping with groups and belong to some and like to take my dogs with me. I usher for a local outdoor concert venue in the summer and love to go to live music and support local musicians especially the Blues. I like wine tasting, movies, and organizing events for my dog groups and Blues Group. Snorkeling, scuba diving and just hanging at the beach.

Music, Movies, and Books

My greatest fun in life besides traveling is going out for live music and supporting those hard working local musicians. I run the San Diego Blues Fans Meetup group and always have great live blues events to go to. I do love other types of music too but Blues is my first love. Haven't seen alot of movies lately and usually watch them on Netflix when I have time. Reading is for vacations , that's when I have time for it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have white water rafted in Costa Rica, Peru, and the US and love to do it more. I saw the City of Rome when they banned all vehicles except buses for one Sunday during the oil embargo in 1972. Walked right down the middle of streets that would normally be clogged with traffic.I was in Scilily when Etna was erupting and we could not fly out and climbed the volcano at Stomboli days before the top erupted and lava flowed into the sea where we climbed. Machu Pichu( hiked up Winapichu the higher peak in the rain and fog where we had to hang on to ropes and go up through the ceiling of a cave to get up), The Great Wall, Copper Canyon in Mexico, The Grand Canyon, and many more amazing places and things to do just waiting for me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone can teach me something new if I pay attention and want to learn that's why it's so great to have CS and Meetup and these kind of online projects available
