About Me

to become an Elder. it's a long-term goal.

I play in the woods a lot, and enjoy listening to birds. I've been spending a lot of time learning to track and read the landscape for the last 5 years or so, and plan to continue this course the rest of my life.

I neither have nor want running water, and my cabin is heated with wood. I really enjoy sitting for long periods of time in silence, especially by the ocean.

Eventually I'd like to be free of my car, my cell phone, and my computer entirely.

Music is very important to me, and I'd really love to find other musicians in the area. I play trumpet, piano, bass and harmonica.

I've been employed as many things, from carpenter to campaign co-ordinator, farm hand to rolls-royce mechanic; but I earned my degree in biology education. I taught jr. high bio, but found the public school model way to constrictive; much as I did as a student. A long term goal is to start an alternative education program that gives high school students credit for being out in the real world (by which I mean the unadulterated landscape) for a few months, learning to live as part of their ecosystem.

I tend to make a lot of my own stuff, like furniture and beer and paradigms and knives.

Reality is a multi-faceted thing, and my perspective is limited. Energy/The Tao/ God/All move in a trillion trillion ways, and I bow the to the Flow.

again, bow to the flow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

hrm. i just started this thing recently and have not participated in any way other than making this profile so far.

none-ish, though I did live on a co-housing farm that hosted many, many WWOOFERs in rural maine. so i'm somewhat familiar with the routine of introducing strangers to one's dishwashing routine.

skipping stones and whistling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i've seen storm fronts called, immortal ravens, wind spirits, and wise whales. i've seen the arc of the world, and watched a fern lift a dead leaf in it's growth towards the sun. i've watched love move and the moon wink, i've seen more than i could have dared dream in my meager 25 years, and my eyes are every day more open.

Teach, Learn, Share

hmm. i teach lots of things. primitive skills, (including but not limited to; wild edibles and medicinals, tracking, birdsong, shelters, friction fire, mindset) biology, etc...
