About Me

is to offer a warm, relaxing and enjoyable stay for those weary travelers happening by my little part of the world.

Being quite omnivagant, world travel has always been of interest to me. I have been to Moscow & St. Petersburg, Russia ('93 and '94); Bermuda ('04); Barcelona, Spain ('06); Cobh, Ireland ('06); Gdynia, Poland ('06); Berlin & Frankfurt, Germany ('67). I once stopped over in Paris (do they count?).
I am not a smoker and I drink very rarely. I don't tend to go to bars and think I would rather explore a museum or library. Perhaps I am a bit boring to some.

I am starting a classic car restoration business and have recently acquired two 1955 Packards, a 1965 Rambler Marlin and a 1960 Dodge Seneca all to be restored.

I enjoy camping, fine dining. All kinds of music, classical the best, particularly, Michael Haydn, Boccherini, & Tchaikovsky. But I can also enjoy trance, techno and Mediterranean music. Lately, I have been listening to modern Arabic music.

I love sailboats, particularly the older wooden ones. If you'd like to talk about old wooden sailboats, you have a listening ear. I have two older (1960s) original fiberglass sailboats made by Tylercraft in Oakdale, Long Island, NY). I am also becoming Passionate about timber frame home and barn building - and will build mine someday. I am a ham radio operator with the call: N5WPG.

I read maritime history and Graham Greene.

I am fascinated by many cultures and have been focusing on German & Russian history & culture.

Travel, it's the best education you can get for your spending dollar.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am planning to take a lot of trips, both the road type around the USA as well as more trips abroad. I would like to take a trip on the entire length of the Trans-Siberian Railroad within the next 2 years. After that, the next faraway places I would like to see would be Iran, Kuwait and India. In the meantime, I am currently transiting the Indian Ocean on a drillship. I am a deck officer aboard and we are headed to Brazil for a job drilling for oil and gas.

One CS experience in Maine, and I had stayed - for a fee - with families in Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg) back in '93 and '94.

Sailing, ham radio, fine dining, world travel, the 1966 Dodge Charger, camping. Wooden boat restoration, old New England-style homes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"Amazing" is a relative term but here goes:
I was born and grew up in New York City.
I've been an over-the-road (long-distance) truck driver for 20 years up until 2001. Going back to school that year at age 45, I studied Marine Transportation Operations and began my career as a merchant mariner in 2003. I now am employed in the oil industry and work as a mate on a drill ship for Noble International.
I've been twice to Russia during the 1990s. I was in Germany as a small child in 1968 for 3 months. I am looking forward to adding more places here very soon. I hope I get to meet many fellow travelers and Couch surfers.
