About Me

I was born and raised in Ptuj, a small town in the sunny eastern Slovenia. I am currently a 4th year medical student in Ljubljana, one of the more challenging European capitals to pronounce and at the same town the biggest town in Slovenia by far (yet still small and quaint by international standards :)).

Everybody who knows me says that I laugh a lot (and quite loudly) and I do think that the positive attitude is the way to go. I like to dance the night away, when I feel like it, but I also like sitting on a bench in the park with a nice book on my lap, quietly immersed in my own head.

I am very active and constantly moving, I can not stay in the same place doing same things for a long time. If there is one thing I don't like - it's routine. Oh, and vinegar.

Medical school can be challenging and chips off a substantial part of my life - but when I have time, I like to go away, either literally to visit something new and for me yet undiscovered, or I just relax myself with a cup of coffee and a pleasant conversation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that meeting local people is the most important part of travelling. Learning about new cultures, languages, local history, discovering hidden local gems ... all this is the essence of it. Only then a trip can be called travelling and not a vacation. And I think that Couchsurfing embodies that spirit. I would very much like to be a part of it.

Interests

I like to laugh and enjoy life, spending hours sipping coffee and socializing (favourite Slovenian pastime), I enjoy theatre, learning foreign languages (currently polishing my French), history of art (my favourite are French Impressionists - but I also like to visit the contemporary exhibitions) - and history in general, geography (architecture (art noveau aficionado).

Music, Movies, and Books

I have always loved reading books, starting with accompanying the Famous Five on their adventures, continuing with an Agatha Christie's introduction in the world of British crime fiction. The med school has chipped off some time that I used to devote to the books - but I am still an avid reader. The authors who inspire me the most are Leo Tolstoy, F. Scott Fitzgerald and William Burroughs. As far as movies are concerned - my favourite are period dramas; among recently watched movies that have moved me the most is a Polish drama Ida. And music? I played the trumpet (now not as often as I've used to) - so I am a jazz lover, naturally. I am also a fan of alternative rock and one simply can not not like (:D) pop music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping on a traditional Sahelian earth roof in the rainy season :).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some words in Slovenian - the "language of love" as it is also called, or a name for a human bone in Latin. What I would like to learn? Everything about you! About your interests, culture, language, cuisine, history, customs ... And when it comes to sharing - a good joke is always a great answer to brighten up the conversation ;).
