ABOUT ME

I have just moved to Montevideo to live, after living in Argentina for 4 years (1 in Buenos Aires, then 3 in Salta). I work as an English teacher but am pretty rubbish about going out so I joined CouchSurfing to meet more people :) And now I've moved to a new country and city I have even more need to find a way to meet people. Favourite things: walking/hiking, national parks, mountains, waterfalls, travelling to new places (so many places, so little time!), going to the cinema, reading good novels, spending quality time in cafes in the sun people-watching, long bus journeys, working on my Spanish! Less keen on: cycling and definitely no extreme sports!! Not good at the really late nights that are so popular here but working on it! Not a beach person except for long walks along them in the winter cold :)

PHILOSOPHY

I have a tattoo with a Helen Keller quote that says "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing".I like the slogan "Make the most of your time on Earth".Other favourite things you're likely to hear from me are "every day do something that scares you" and things like "f*ck it - I might get hit by a bus tomorrow" (seize the day would be a good summary....)Does that give you an idea??Oh and I'm not particularly religious. I prefer the Bill and Ted idea of simply "Be excellent to one another!"

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have a couch to offer but I joined CouchSurfing to meet people, either those that live here or who are just passing through. Although I work as an English teacher I have not joined to offer English lessons. I have plenty of hours already and am pretty lazy!

Interests

Going to the cinema. Hanging out in coffee shops with the paper :) Hiking/trekking. 80s / 90s music. Would also be interested in finding volunteer work here

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Anything in Spanish right now, to try and improve it. All-time favourite book is Pride and Prejudice though.Music: Mainly 80s/90s stuff, rock/pop with emphasis on lots of guitars! Bit of classical (I try and play the cello...). Recently acquired the taste for tango music and folclore. Cannot stand reggae or reggaeton!Films: Love going to the pictures. Tend to watch more arty, film festival type stuff rather than Hollywood big films. Faves include Brief Encounter, Bugsy Malone, Donnie Darko, The Wedding Singer

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Different people find different things amazing. But I'm proud of having packed in a 'good, sensible job' in the UK, selling everything, to move to the other side of the world. I've also seen some amazing things travelling, like penguins in Patagonia, polar bears in Canada, tigers in India, glaciers, deserts, lakes, mountains.
