About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I left home in April. The goal is to travel perhaps a year, perhaps more.

ABOUT ME

Words put bread on my table, music and art inspire me, and an insatiable curiosity propels me through life. I'm well traveled and well read (always working on both), was a Division I athlete (soccer), can run the gamut from goofy to intellectual, play guitar and sing, have been gainfully employed (traveling at the moment) and been lucky enough to make money while traveling. Music and writing are my two greatest passions and part of the reason I left home to travel is to write a book. I've also got a few travel articles in the works at the moment. I'm creative, intelligent, funny, a conversationalist and compassionate-I'll never be a dick to people in the service industry. What else to you want to know? Just ask.

PHILOSOPHY

That you can create anything with your thoughts. I've been amazed at some of the things I've created while traveling. Although I sometimes get lost in the mind like everyone, I am trying day by day to live with gratitude and intention. They are the most powerful catalysts of creation. Every day for more than a year I write five things I am grateful for and five things I want to create. You wouldn't even believe the things I've created if I told you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, my life is in a storage unit right now, but when I get it back together after this year of travel, would love to open my house to good people/travelers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brand new! Several people I've met on my trip have either done it or said I should check it out and that you meet great people doing it.

Interests

Music, reading, learning, going out to the pub with good people, bringing different groups of friends together. Hiking, camping, traveling, exploring the world and myself. Weekend getaways, live music, art, talking art, creating art, open roads and waters, freedom, inspiration, yoga, meditation.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: So many...The National, Andew Bird, Radiohead, Phish, Grateful Dead, Beach House, Local Natives, Modest Mouse, MGMT, Pavement, Neil Young, Sigur Ros, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Black Keys, Deer Tick, Flaming Lips, Fleet Foxes, Gillian Welch, John Prine. I could talk music all day. Also like the blues, motown, classical. You name it.

Books: Notable reads on this trip: Shantaram, Life, by Keith Richards, Kids, by Patti Smith, We Wanted to be Writers, The Autobiography of a Yogi, my journals. Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In India I volunteered for an environmental lawyer who has won the equivalent of two Nobel prizes. He was amazing and inspiring. The Great Wall exceeded my expectations as did the temples at Ankor Wat. Coming in third would be the Taj Mahal. Most amazing thing I've done is what I'm doing. Making my way through the world, bouncing off people and ideas, exploring, writing, creating, earning money along the way, and learning about my place in the world. I think of travel as a pinball machine; sometimes you're the bumper and sometimes you're the ball.Volunteering at an orphanage in Tanzania was amazing as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like meeting people who are fun, interesting, have some life experience, are passionate about something, have a story to tell
