ABOUT ME
I love to laugh. I'm very good at striking up a casual conversation but not very good at really getting to know people. I grew up in the same town where my parents grew up, where my sister just bought our grandmother's house. I love learning things and I'm quite skeptical, so check your facts before you tell me something amazing ;)
PHILOSOPHY
Do what you love whenever you can; figure out a way to get back to doing what you love when you can't.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have hosted and been hosted by many friends and relatives but I have not yet met anyone through CS -- hoping to do so soon! I remember what a good time we had keeping an "open couch" in my first apartment after university.
Interests
I read a lot, mostly fiction and popular science/history; I get really excited about science and explaining science to others; I like to hear lots of different viewpoints on topics of importance but I usually think some of them are totally, unequivocally wrong; I walk everywhere; I love to people-watch; I'm interested in voluntary simplicity but I do have a bit of a consumerist streak. I like semicolons. I work at a museum, which means I get in free to basically all the museums in Boston, and I try to go as often as I can. As a Bostonian, I am required by law to be interested in baseball; somehow I have learned a non-trivial amount of info about the Red Sox without ever meaning to. I sing Alto I in a chorus.

Music, Movies, and Books
It's hard for me to figure out what the common thread is in the movies I like -- the last couple of years were great for movies and I enjoyed There Will Be Blood, Children of Men, Simon Pegg's movies. I also love 80s action blockbusters like Die Hard and Indiana Jones, and really old classics like Casablanca and It Happened One Night. And Hitchcock.
Music -- Gillian Welch, Sufjan Stevens, Tom Petty, the occasional pop country hit. And classical music, including a fair amount of 20th-century stuff, Steve Reich and Britten some Philip Glass.
Books -- kids fantasy, grown-up versions of kids fantasy like Susanna Clarke and Neil Gaiman, Jane Austen, Richard Dawkins, Jared Diamond, cheesy mysteries and the occasional romance novel.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I flipped a car end over end and walked away fine -- went to a concert the next day! Hey, it's not a good thing (especially for the car), but it is amazing.
I'm always looking for more amazing experiences.
