About Me

I'm a 21-year old sociology student from Amsterdam. I'm a pretty average guy who's really social. I can't imagine spending a day or night a better way than hanging out, listening to music, firing up the barbecue in a park and just forget about time. I'm a football, rugby and cycling fan. My interests are not far from average I guess, but that's because I can relate to a lot of different people, styles and tastes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I tried hitchhiking a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the suprising people you come to meet. A friend of mine often has couchsurfers over, and I thought I might give it a try.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like listening to bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Kooks, but also artists varying from Tupac to Tom Waits and Jack Johnson. I used to play piano as a kid but didn't have the discipline nor the motivation to really improve. I had the same problem when I started playing the guitar, though I had much more motivation, getting started was hard and then I moved to study and forgot about it. I'm not a big movie man, but I can't get enough of the Lord of the Rings-trilogy (the books too), and the Harry Potter franchise. I enjoy classics like Pulp Fiction (who doesn't), Forrest Gump, Léon, The Green Mile etc. I am a big fan of Scandanivian detective-novels like Henning Mankell's Wallander series, or Jo Nesbo. Lately I have enjoyed fantasy-novels such as Game of Thrones and the Warcraft novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't think this is the kind of amazing that most people write about, but when I was 17 I was diagnosed with cancer. I struggled with that for about 1,5 year, but survived. During this period I got to fly to Barcelona thanks to the Make-a-wish foundation. There I got to meet Lionel Messi, of whom I'm a huge fan. That last part might be the kind of amazing this question is about. Below is a picture of me in much worse shape with him.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't think I'm wise enough to teach yet, but one thing I should learn myself is to do the things you have to ánd the things you want to without hesitation. Piling up duties makes me feel snowed in, and just saying I want to do this or that I never get anywhere. I always used to say I want to study abroad but never took the time, and now I finally did and I'm going to Gothenburg next semester.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An all around laid-back vibe. I'm up for spending time together, and would love to hang out, but I'm also able to take care of myself and not get in your hair. I am fairly well-traveled and I think I'm quite funny, but that might just be because i'm getting chubbier and studies show heavier people are funnier. Other way around I'm totally open to welcome you to Amsterdam whenever your visiting, or wherever I might live by then.
