Creative pursuits, such as creating lackluster but special to me music, getting into trouble, having a good time and trying to make my life as awesome as I can before I die
I'm am a 24 year old high school teacher / web programmer / retail store owner located in Roanoke, VA. Due to the nature of business at the store, sometimes I get large chunks of time off at a time, and I usually try to use these to go on wacky trips to collect more zany adventures and experiences! I love meeting new people (just like everyone else on this site, I assume).
If something would sound good in a song or story later, you should probably do it. Don't cause too much trouble unless you need to, and pick up the tab when you can.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I buy alcohol for anyone that would like it who I stay with. If you don't drink alcohol, I don't know what to say. I could recommend some drinks for you, if you'd like? You know, just to get you pointed in the right direction? If you like sweet, try Riesling. If not, try sauvignon blanc. Make sure you pay at least $6 for a bottle, but no more than $12.
Also I can host in Roanoke, VA if you are coming through!
I have some experience, a few friends of mine are in and out of punk bands on the east coast, so whenever I go on a trip with them to another city there's always a friend of a friend who has a couch to stay on - but when I go traveling by myself I don't quite have that luxury.
Music! Listening to it, faux-creating it, flailing wildly to it (see: dancing), seeing it performed. I enjoy good conversation. I can generally have a conversation about anything, or at least pretend that I know what I'm talking about well enough to fool most people. I just love meeting new people, ya know.
Music, Movies, and Books
If I had to choose 1 of these 3, I'd say music. Gogol Bordello, World/Inferno, Riders in the Sky, Little Richard, Louis Jordan, DJ Tiesto, Bright Eyes, Musical Soundtracks (RENT, Producers, Chicago, Next to Normal, Avenue Q, West Side Story (Film, not that crappy production currently on broadway as of 2011). Unlike most people who say this, I will actually listen to anything. Country and Rap included.
The only types of movies I generally watch are musicals, comedies or kids movies, so that's that. Some of my favorites are RENT, Crybaby, Home Alone, Malibu's Most Wanted (Secret Shame), The Producers, Midnight Cowboy (everytime I take the bus south from new york I think of this movie).
I'll do you the favor of not lying about the fact that I generally don't read many books. I don't really feel guilty about this, though I think a lot of people do. This last book I read was The Help by Kathryn Stockett, if listening to an Audio CD counts as reading. The last book I read before that was probably a berenstain bears book when I was 8 years old, or maybe it was a Mr Men book. I do read a lot of articles on this here internet though, so maybe that will redeem me. Oh! And I just finished "Class" by Paul Fussel.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hmm..I've seen a lot of amazing things, most of them were theater / punk rock shows. The commitment and intensity of the kids at some of these shows is totally amazing. That's one o
Teach, Learn, Share
Sure, I can teach you a few different things if you'd like! I can teach basic web programming (php), beginner saxophone / clarinet..I can teach you how to make money buy buying and selling cell phones on craigslist if you want..that's probably how I'm funding this trip! Oh! I can also teach you how to make people think you are fancy by pretending that you know about wine (see the 'how I participate' box).
