About Me

Practiced medicine in Juneau, Alaska for over 40 years.
Married for over 40 years. My wife really can't travel.
We moved to a retirement community in Lacey, Washington in June 2014.
I'm familiar with the idea of couch surfing, having a good friend who has let a specially prepared bedroom in he and his wife's home, for several years. The result of that is that he's established good friendships with many, and since he and his wife do travel, he's experienced reciprocation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because of the fore mentioned information above, and because I'm looking for accommodations that may be relatively inexpensive and comfortable when I have occasion to make short trips away from home.

The immediate reason is for accommodations during a return to my medical school's 50th year celebration....Alumni gathering, and day long educational seminar (this April); I'm planning to have my 16 year old grandson accompany me during this trip.

Music, Movies, and Books

Classical music and religious choral work; movies of all sorts; non-fictional books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At my wife's instigation, brought two teenage Vietnamese boys into our home in 1980. They had no school education and were, and have remained largely illiterate. BUT, they are bright. Both shrimp fish out of the Mississippi delta region, one has five children, 3 with college degrees, one a chemical pHD candidate, one a certified pharmacist, and a third has joined the US Navy desiring to be a Air-Sea Rescue team member. The other two children are following closely in the older sibs footsteps. These two grown men, left the jungle of South Vietnam and were picked up by the US Navy originally. We are deeply committed to our connection with these families, and vice-versa

Teach, Learn, Share

My wife has MS contributing to limited mobility, and her availability as a traveling companion. I'm a primary care giving, and so we are not in a position to be adequately entertaining guests, and outside of immediate family members, this would not be encouraged within this community....visiting is fine, and very enjoyable, but over-night accommodations is not possible.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Nearly 80 years' life experiences, I guess; with an emphasis on medicine.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, England, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Wales
