About Me

CURRENT MISSION

The intersection ahead.

ABOUT ME

Nerdy, good-natured anthropologist.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I'm just looking for hosts when I go to conferences. Hopefully, I can soon reciprocate!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed in Costa Rica, but nowhere else yet! (And I suppose doing ethnographic fieldwork is a little like couch-surfing...)

Also, I have good friends who swear by it, so I'm trying it out here in the US.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am an anthropologist, whatever that means. Literally, I suppose it means I have a professional, dilettantish interest in people; more specifically, I have an interest in that amalgam we call 'culture'. I'll talk to you about it, unless you'd rather not. :)

Even more specifically, my dissertation research project is about ex-machos (self-labeled) seeking spiritual transformation in religious and therapeutic groups. I lived in a small, rural town in northern Costa Rica for almost two years (over the course of a decade), spending time with informants in the way anthr-ists tend to do.
