One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a teenager. I saw a toddler walking on the outside of a fire escape structure of a typical NYC building, on a four or five story building. I jumped up to the fire escapes platform's stairway, climbed to the first landing, dashed up to where the child was holding on to the outside rail of that floor's platform, reached over and grabbed the child to safety (the child had gotten out of the apartment through its open window, then must have fitted through the rail to the street side of the fire escape platform. As I think about it afterwards, I am glad the child did not fall out of my grip.
