BACKGROUND
Television interview World War II Memorial Day, 2008- By Mike Walter, of WUSA TV, Channel 9, Washington, D.C.

“ Tell me Mr. Kniskern, what was your initial reaction when you realized that you were being summarily and erroneously arrested as a German Spy” ? “ Great concern, at first, then true Terror seized me at this possibility, for, as I recall, all Spies arrested in Civilian clothes were to face a Firing Squad!!!! Added disbelief set in when our train was met by a contingent of MP’s with their weapons at Port Arms!! To hear the “Rest of the Story”, your listeners will have to read my book, “The Winds of Sirocco”. “ This was an amazing experience, I know, Peter, and I’m excited that our viewers will hear about your adventures on the News, Tonight.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am interviewing Mr. Peter Kniskern, one of the youngest if not the youngest Volunteers of World War II, and member of the VUMS organization, the Volunteer Underage Veterans of WW II. (1943/1944 and 1946/1948. He is now President of his own International Marketing Health company, Hemispheric Business Network.
For his participation in the North African campaign, and subsequent volunteerism at 16 ½ for an additional two year tour of duty with the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Kniskern received an Honorable Discharge and awarded the WW II Victory Medal with Honorable Service Lapel Buttons, Expert weapons qualifications and the U.S.Army Freedom Team Salute Certificate of Appreciation from General George Casey, U.S. Army Chief of Staff; he will also receive the VUMS Citation Underage Medal in 2010; as a 13 year-old Minor, he was attached to the 12th Army Air Force in Algiers, North Africa, under the General command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. During this period, Peter was instrumental to the Allies prior to and after the complete routing of the Axis Forces under Field Marshall Rommel whose forces were finally pushed into the Mediterranean. Peter was later promoted to Civil Affairs Officer. His exploits were published by the New York Times, Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Chicago Daily Tribune, The Hinsdale Doings, and the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Kniskern will appear in the Fall, 2010 issue of “American Warrior”
Being multi-lingual, he was able to lead the American Forces to heretofore hidden makeshift graves of Allied Paratroopers in the Tunisian battle-grounds who had been killed in action, and more often than not, murdered by the indigenous pro-German Arab sympathisers who sought the silk of their parachutes to make shirts. These fallen American Heroes’ bodies were often thrown into underground grain Silos, and thrown-in head-first into the pits. Knowing the local language and the identity of many of the perpetrators, Peter was able to obtain additional Intelligence from local leaders, used to arrest, interrogate and punish those guilty of those horrible crimes; confessions by the local Gendarmerie of Sfax and Sidi-Bou-Zid were obtained through the practice of the original “WATER-BOARDING”, witnessed by Mr. Kniskern during several fatal interrogation sessions.
Had this intelligence not been obtained, the families of those fallen would have never known the fate of their Sons who would still be buried unceremoniously up-side down in these Silos!! There would never have been proper Closure for the families. At 13 years of age, Mr. Kniskern’s additional duties and interests were varied, these and many other experiences formed his character for future years.

PHILOSOPHY

FOLLOW THE OLD ADDAGE OF "LAISSEZ fAIRE", I say, this is my Motto, "LIVE AND LET LIVE" IS MY pHILOSOPHY; I HAVE travelled extensively throughout the world and have lived IN SEVRAL COUNTRIES WITH VARIED ETHNICITIES AND HAVE LEARNED TO APPRECIATE A PERSON FOR WHAT'S IN HIS HEART RATHER THAN WHAT'S IN HIS MIND!

Music, Movies, and Books

Love all of these endeavors, when I have time, that is; love classical, Big Band and Latin-American music;good movies, not trashy novels are always enjoyable..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

4:00 Am view of the rising of the Sun from Mount Halleakala in Hawaii; absolutely stunning; skiing down the frozen slopes of l'Alpe d'Huez in the Alps by only the light of the Moon; glacially inspiring but very dangerous; riding horseback " au Clair de la Lune" on the Plains of the Tunisian desert wasteland at Midnight, quite stirring; driving into Sahara desert's most Southern exposure, falling into a pitt of writhing Scorpions and Dsert Rattlers, etcc.., etc...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm foremost a friend, then a Teacher of how to recapture our Youth; Ponce De Leon must have rolled-over in his grave when WE discovered the proverbial "Fountain of Youth" in the 21st Century. My URL states my goal: youthhawker1.com
