ABOUT ME

Hello new friends!! My name is Zak, and I'm a travelling musician and artist from Canada! I come from a small town just outside of Ottawa, Ontario. I play the guitar, the piano, and the harmonica and I'm always willing to learn a new instrument. I'm an avid reader as well as I am quite the bushman. I've spent the last few years tramping and backpacking all over Canda, coast to coast and now I've decided it's time to finally go international! I'm a super awesome person, and I love making friends out of random strangers! I also love spicy food!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to squat at a big folk punk house in Halifax a few years ago, and there was a guy from Whales who had come to crash there, we all performed music, shared drinks, and stories and had an amazing time. He was a great guy and it was a great experience!

Interests

Swing dancing!!!, Folk music, music and art, travelling, hiking, back packing, surfing, swimming, listening to stories, having drinks with friends at the end of the night talking about things we only ever dream of, going to concerts and art galleries. Introducing my self to random strangers, and going on amazing adventures in the middle of the night with no plans.

Music, Movies, and Books

A lot of Folk/Celtic/Rock/Punk!!
I love older films, anything pre-1950! Mickey Rooney is a favorite!
I'm also a sucker for a good comedy, and of course a good slasher flick! Though, in my mind the horror movie genre died when Paris Hilton started acting in them, Bazinga.
Books: Into the Wild, Call of the wild (Notice a trend? Lol!) Red dog, Of Mice and Men, A slave no more (You need to read this book, so amazing) I am also interested in anything relating to holocaust survivors, it's amazing to read about how different the times where, and the struggles they went through, and how they made it out of them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I remember hitch hiking across the praries, and I was sleeping in a field in my sleeping bag, and I woke up to the sunrise,and I was in just shorts, and I lit up a ciggarette as my feet went through the grass, it was amazing and so surreal. Not a cloud in the sky, and I just remember being at peace.

Hiking through the bush on Vancouver Island, and coming to these train tracks,and following them for days, taking me to a giant bridge, over looking the valley, then walking to a waterfall and swimming in the bottom of it!

Busking in Halifax and meeting other buskers, performing together then going back to their house to a house show, then living with them for a month busking every day, making music, and making art.
