ABOUT ME

Really easy going. I have been self employed for the last 35 or so years. Used to be a mega-risk taker but not so much any more. Gave up motorcycles for bicycling, SCUBA, crossword puzzles, and keeping my yorkie, Bailey, from trying to take over pack leader role.

Enjoy food, love to cook, Sezchwan style, Barbecue, Smoked meats, bake, etc. Mostly because I enjoy watching people enjoy themselves (and I like to eat different things as well)

Married, 3 children, two girls both of whom are married with wonderful kids. My son lives with my wife Peggy and me. He is 30, has a disability, but is sweet and considerate, able to drive, cleans up after himself, and most of all mows our very small back grass.

My son and I like traveling together, he is good company and we are both fluent in Spanish, ok, Jeremy is not as fluent as I but he is fearless and not afraid of making mistakes in attempting to communicate.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a born again Christian. Shocking, I know, but I go against the grain, as is my nature. I hate injustice, and I spend a large amount of my time as a Board member of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) in fund raising, teaching classes, advocating, working towards eliminating the stigma of mental illness and so forth.

My Christianity is exhibited by my life, not my words. I will talk religion, if you like, but I am more interested in you as a human being first. I am conservative in many ways (particularly in the area of Right to Life.... very opposed to abortion) but I am the last person you will find pointing a finger at anyone for any reason.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At this point, brand new. Strongly considering offering space in my home. Want to find out a little more. Jeremy and I are traveling to Spain in May of '08 for two weeks. First to Girona for a week then south to Alicante. Though our accomodations are set for two weeks, we would like to connect with others of our persuasion to establish dialogue and lasting friendships........ and maybe have someone point us towards good food and wine!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None. My son and I have stayed in Hostels in some of our travels, but that is about it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Like Historical fiction and some biographical and autobiographical. Not a huge reader, but some books that have impacted my life are "Ragamuffin Gospel" a book by a former Catholic Priest that points out the injustices within many Christian Communities.

Music.. most just no rap. Favor Jazz, Blues, 60's and 70's rock and roll, big band, many forms of indigenous music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode my bicycle 110 miles in one day? OK, maybe not a big deal, but I survived. Used to ride my BMW motorcycle in excess of 150 mph? And lived to tell about it? That was one reason I gave up "sicles".

Seen God's miraculous hand at work in my life and the lives of others in ways that can only be deemed miraculous........ If I get to meet you I will share some of this information if you are up for it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can enlighten you about Mental Illness. There is much to say, too much to write here, but it is what my son has had to deal with for the last 12 years. He is good about his meds, the illness is very much under control, but it has impacted his life as well as the lives of all those who love and protect him. I have a minor struggle with depression (seasonal affective disorder) but I control it with Medication. (Better living through Chemistry, I always say.)
