Beijing is a magical city where the remnants of an ancient empire stand in the midst of some of the world’s most modern architecture. Beijing is home to some of the country’s best museums, theaters, and music venues, so there are countless opportunities to about the Chinese people and their culture. It’s a treasure trove of historical sites as well, with six UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the city. The Forbidden City, home to the imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties, is a must-see for any trip here.

Also visit the Temple of Heaven, which houses sacred prayer halls visited by former emperors, and the Tiananmen, a national symbol of imperial China. Of course, a trip to China should include experiencing one of the great wonders of the world: the Great Wall. Make your way to Gubei Water Town for an unforgettable experience. Situated on a river with the Great Wall running along the mountain ridges surrounding it, the timber houses of this village are much the same as they were hundreds of years ago. Gubei seems to be eternally rooted in a different time.
