Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s largest city and economic center. This city has so much to offer travelers, whether it’s upscale dining or delicious street stalls, expensive designer fashions or cheap market finds. There’s something for everyone here if you’re willing to dive in and try to keep up with the rush of activity going on all around you.
Take some time to wander the streets to see the French colonial architecture that remains as a souvenir from a time when France laid claim to Vietnam. Make your way to the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, a magnificent cathedral in the city center that rivals any of the great cathedrals of Europe. Visit the district of Cholon, Ho Chi Minh City’s very own Chinatown, to browse the stalls of the Binh Tay Market for a great deal on the perfect souvenir. Also, be sure to sample some authentic Vietnamese food during your visit, like Pho, a classic soup made with rice noodles, herbs, and meat. It’s simple, but it’s delicious.
