About Me

I'm mostly shaped by my upbringing in a town near Barcelona, the time spent in London for my university studies, and the times in which I have had the amazing opportunity to visit and work in Kenya. I feel a citizen of the world, I love humans and humankind though I recognise many of our egoistic negative effects on the planet, and I am really shaken by unfairness. For me, there is no such great things as music, chocolate, cultural diversity, intellectual challenge and those friends and discussions that make you evolve as a person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It is beautiful when humans help other humans just because we understand, respect and empathise with each other. Even though the current world is overpopulated and highly focused on making money, I believe that in a small scale and in very respectful communities, such as Couchsurfing, it is possible to get the most out of life without the necessary dependency on money. By joining Couchsurfing, I would like to contribute to a community of people that give a hand to each other without expecting anything back, and I would love to meet other people and talk and discuss with them, since they will surely broaden and enrich my perspective on life.

A just world with a happy humanity respectful with Earth is at the core of my interests. The current way in which I channel this broad interest is through activism within the global health sphere, in particular advocating for better access to medicines both in developed and developing countries, trying to affect policy-making around innovation and access to medicines.

I also have a passion for education and empowerment of teenagers, who will shape the future of this world. Apart from being a teacher in Barcelona, I have learnt a lot from the school development projects that I have been involved in and sometimes lead through the partnership with a school in Kenya.

Biological and epidemiological research are also amongst my main intellectual interests. Aside, I love music and play some instruments (not very well)!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love many styles of music, and I'm open to all of them. My most current interests: bossa negra, bossa nova, jazz, rock, indie and alternative music (Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Ordinarius, Little Joy, Soko, the Beatles, Pink Martini, Mika, Nouvelle Vague, the Cranberries, David Bowie, Santana, Russian Red, Nina Simone, Chick Corea, Buena Vista Social Club, the Killers, Kings of Convinience).

I would like to watch many more movies and read many more books than I currently do, but my favourite book ever is The book thief, from Markus Zusak. Also Isabel Allende, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, etc. I aspire to go through life abiding by The little prince, from Antonie de Saint-Exupéry.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am not an expert in anything, but I can share some modest catalan cuisine traditions, many talks and discussions, my enthusiasm for travelling and my experiences in developing countries, through which I would like to highlight the importance of being culture-sensitive rather than harmful to their societies. I many times travel with my ukulele and flute and I am always willing to share and learn music if the host wants to too!
