About Me

I have to confess that my real name is Luis Rubén, but not many people know that I have two names. When they realize that, they then tell me “ohh.. can I call you Luis now? but after that they always forget it and they keep calling me Rubén, Rubi, Rubens..
My first name, Luis, was given to me by my sister. I have lived with her and my parents until I was eighteen, in a gorgeous city called Vigo, in south Galicia (Spain). In this great city you can find the best sunsets in the world, the best shellfish and, probably, the best people as well.
At age 18 I moved to Madrid in order to start my college degree and I had the opportunity to live in an university residence that changed my life. There I meet some people who open my mind and I realized that I am the person who has to chose the way I live my life , until someone proves otherwise, I only will have this opportunity once, and for that reason I want to spend it in the best way possible . I want to help people around me achieve that also.
Last year I won a scholarship and moved to a little town in the middle of a mountain in Tennessee (USA). Here I work for the Spanish Department at “The University of the South” where I am teaching Spanish and organizing events to demonstrate my culture to the community ///

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I think that traveling is not just about moving from one place to other one, staying in a hotel and going to get to know that place in order to take pictures of the main tourist monuments and posting those pics on facebook. Traveling for me is having the opportunity to know a entirely new place that I am not used to seeing everyday, to know its people, their own way of seeing life, their way of having fun… Traveling to me is living for some time in the same way as the people that actually live there live. Couchsurfing provides you with the best possible way of getting to know a place which is by being shown that places by one friend who is from there ///

Interests

I like drama, performing radio shows, nature, taking my bike and riding without knowing where I am going to arrive, cinema, tv shows, traveling, meeting interesting people, playing games, being with children, going to summer camps, recording videos, eating good food, drinking wine (in moderation of course), swimming in the sea (naked, if is possible, it’s much better), laughing, perform random plans with my friends, music who makes you dance, coming into a cathedral or church and feeling the vibes inside, caving, small towns where there are not many people, abandoned places… ///

Once I organized a “San Fermín” (The spanish tradition of Running of the bulls) in USA. We used bikes instead real bulls. It was so much fun! ///
