ABOUT ME

I've been cooking since I was a child. My love for cooking became a true passion after working with several talented chefs in the midwest during my early 20's. I left for The Culinary Institute of America soon after. It didn't take long for my eyes to adjust to the world. Living in New York broadened my horizon. It was a beautiful time in my life. I graduated school with a bachelors degree in the beginning of 2007. Since then I've been an Executive Chef for a large foodservice corporation...loving and living life!

As a boy I was some what shy about meeting new people. I was the artist type who loved social events but didn't like to stand out. College changed all that about me. Though I may not we crazy wild now-a-days, I know how to have a great time and hang loose with any crowd, anywhere. I consider myself an independent...a free soul some might say. I have a strong will and desire to be successful with anything and everything that I do. I love a good challenge! The people I meet always find me interesting. I suppose its a combination of my smarts, attention to detail, humor, and my adventerous personality. I've experienced more things than most people twice my age and I have stories for hours when you get me going.

PHILOSOPHY

"Day by day, what you choose, what you think, and what you do, is what you become."

I once walked 10 miles along the Grand Canon as the sun was setting over the horizon...I kept telling myself "1 more mile" just to see what the sun set looked like over the next cliff. When the sun set I chased the moon another 10. I'm always pushing myself that extra mile because I can't get enough of this beautiful world in all its wonders.

I suppose I look just a little past "everything happens for a reason"...I've been blessed with a lot of good fortune in my life. When I meet certain people that strike a feeling in my gut or experience something that makes my hair stand up...or when I experience a cawensadence, I act on that moment and look deep into its origin. I guess its something I can't truly explain, but when it happens something good always comes of it...when I sleep on it, I miss out on a positive experience...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been moving around the states all my life. I lived in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, New York, California, Nevada and now Washington...but I've traveled all but 4 out of 50 states. It's the sence of adventure and discovering new places and meeting new people that keeps me going. I have dreams of some day travelling the world, but I havn't found the means to do so...that is until I found this website. I hope to make a lot of new friends on here and endure crazy adventures so that I may feel at peace with my inner curiosities. My couch is open to travelers who wish to visit the Seattle area here in Washington.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most interesting things happened to me when I was fourteen...

I grew up in a tough neighborhood on the East side of Columbus. Though my friends were wild and crazy, flashing gang signs and picking fights half the time, I never followed them into the pits. I was always a little different, always a little quite. One afternoon, after school, we were sitting outside a grocery store smoking pot and drinking malt liquor. My friends were acting up as usual, but I was staring out into the parking lot in a daze. For some reason my eyes were fixed on an empty parking spot. I was thinking about my best friend who was shot and killed about two weeks prior...my father that I hadn't talked too in years...my report card that had almost all F's...and the alcohol I was drinking and how it didn't seem right for me. An old rusty white truck pulled into the parking spot I was staring at. An old man got out, hat pulled down over his eyes, with blue jeans and white button-up. The man walked over to me, crouched so that he was eye level, pulled his hat back and said "I don't know why I pulled in here...I have 10 minutes to kill before I have to meet an old friend down the street. I saw you over here and I felt I had something to say to you. You aren't like your friends over there. You aren't like anyone else I've ever met. But...you are someone I feel like I know." I was so shocked I couldn't say a word. He proceeded with "I know your having some tough times in your life. This is a tough neighborhood and you wear it on your face." He looked out into the sky. "A good friend of mine died recently and I'm meeting another mutual friend to grief in his honor. A good friend of yours died too." My heart was pounding. He looked me in the eyes and said "Son, we all experience a loss at some point in our lives. Your parents aren't there for you, your grades suffer and your friends tempt you with unworldly ways..." He rubbed the whiskers on his chin and pulled his hat down flush with his eye brows, "But your heart is bigger than mine kid and I aint ever did wrong my entire life. When you open your eyes you'll find everything that heart desires. Never let an opportunity pass you by." He gave me a sincere smile, nodded his head, stood up straight and turned around back for his truck and just like that he was gone. My friends made jokes about the guy as he was walking away. They never saw the significance of the encounter because they never knew the man had addressed everything I was thinking in a few short sentences nor would they have cared. They never opened their eyes.

Teach, Learn, Share

Do you like to cook? Do you enjoy wine? I don't know everything there is to know about the two, but I'm a damn good chef. I've been cooking since I was 8 years old and I do this for a living. I love to teach people culinary arts. If this sparks your interest, than your in the right hands with me.
