ABOUT ME

I'm very fun but also very responsible. I have a positive outlook, but apply cynicism for good humor. I like to keep things in moderation; it's important to me to always be doing something to contribute to society, but also having fun at the same time so I don't get frustrated or boring. I take a lot of pictures and a lot of notes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am just getting involved in CS. I am currently not in a position to host due to my volunteer program, but hope to be someday.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had my first CS experience in Montpellier, France, earlier this year, and it was one of the best of my life so far! I loved meeting up with two strangers who were kind of enough to host me and show me around their lovely city and finding out that I had tons in common with them. It enriched my travel so much and I'm forever grateful...and wish I had discovered couchsurfing sooner!

Before CS, I had a lot of informal couchsurfing experience. I used to live in a big house in Portland, Oregon with a very comfy brown couch named Carla that was home to many vagrant and/or drunk friends at various times. I drove from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine between February and March 2009 and was hosted by many lovely friends (and friends of friends) and their couches along the way.

Interests

Learning, friends, literature, acupuncture, food/cooking, gender studies, crafts, exercise (notably Zumba and other dance classes), tape flags, shoes, pictures, the history channel, documentaries, history, dogs, sometimes cats, bright colors.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite books are One Hundred Years of Solitude, Light in August, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Anna Karenina, Infinite Jest, The Sound and the Fury, and plays by Edward Albee.

My favorite music is by The Rolling Stones, Prince, Electric Light Orchestra, Roy Orbison, and Loretta Lynn.

My favorite movies are Apocalypse Now, (NOT the redux version), Hitchcock movies (and the old TV show!), National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, The Graduate, The Window, Cinema Paradiso, basically all Scorsese, Rushmore, Pedro Almodovar films, and more...I love movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to the Church of St. James in Prague early on a Sunday morning to hear the organ recital was pretty amazing. (The church is classical baroque, and has the mummified arm of a thief who tried to steal from the collection basket hanging from the ceiling when you walk in).

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very crafty and can teach people how to knit, embroider or crochet. I know some good napkin folds from my days in the catering business. I love to cook food together and swap recipes. (I really enjoy teaching people vegetarian/vegan recipes and encouraging meat-reduction!) I can talk for hours about gender studies and social work stories.
I would love to learn more about yoga, how to fix a bicycle, how to do website design, and to share writing with people.
