make a difference
Probably the best way to know that is to meet me. In the end, it depends on you. I hope I am understanding, have a sense of integrity and am ambitious in making a difference.
Have fun, try to listen well, make a difference.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Not yet through this site. In Japan my hosts were great, they visited me afterwards in Berlin and Amsterdam. In Mumbai my host invited me for food with his girlfriend, I brought him a bottle of tax free single malt whiskey. In Berlin I hosted italian, german, english and dutch friends whom I showed the city, as well as in Amsterdam (I used to be a tour guide there). In Portugal my former flatmate and I hitchhiked and got invited by some very nice Portugese. One guy drove us to a marvellous fish restaurant with self made cognac. Delicious.
Lots, mainly how and why people think, act and feel the way they do. F.e. who is thinking when I observe my thoughts? Or: how do you get people to litter less? Or why is something funny funny? And why do we ask why? I like poetry slam, improv, cycling, swimming, spontaneous stuff. I enjoy looking at ducks standing on one leg or children throwing stones in the water, see leaves swirl, feel cloth, smell the flowers etc. But I can get infected by anyone, who has a passion for his or her topic.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books by amongst others Tanizaki, Kawabata, Hrabal, Stefan Zweig, Ernest Hemingway, Raymond Chandler, Patricia Highsmith.
Movies f.e. by Ernst Lubitsch, Billy Wilder, J.-L- Godard, Visconti, De Sica etc. "Newer" movies also like Heat, Scent of a woman, Ice Age, Monster Inc etc. Last movie I enjoyed a lot lately: Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. And I admit: I find it hard to turn down a movie.
Music: a lot. I am not an expert, but like to be surprised.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Most amazing for me (being dutch ...) was standing on top of a more than 4000 metres high mountain, looking over the clouds. It is already some time ago, but I still get the chills ...
Teach, Learn, Share
Things I know something about: job applications, cv writing, finding out what people are about, presentations, sales, literature, little bit of philosphy, psychology, website optimization. Several friends told me I should get into coaching.
I would like to learn to dance tango, surf well (too long ago I took that course!), speak italian well (brush it up after the first course in Rome), start learning arabic and chinese. Do a decent massage (definitely on the list, seems so much more rewarding than algebra), learn more simple relaxation techniques, do a triathlon some time this or next year (who can teach me how to crawl well?). So much more, but this should get me started ... :-)
