Why I’m on Couchsurfing
The sheer scope of humanity fascinates me. Walk down a street. How many people do you pass? To you they are background characters. Yet they are not. They have lived whole lives with drama and loss and happiness and love and hate. We pass by universes every day. And then they are gone. It's almost as if they flicker into and out of existence.
So I am here to meet the people I would never normally interact with.
Writing and photography are my two main creative outlets. I try to do at least one a day. I think it's important to stay creative. To hold onto your imagination.
I love the water. Spending most of my life out on the ocean has mellowed me out a lot. My wife and I try and go on a dive trip each year.
I am mostly vegetarian, which of course means I am not, although I am working on it.
I climb a lot. There is a cool climbing wall about half an hour from us so if you climb that is a massive plus.
I have recently been getting interested in board games. I love the way they bring people together. We also live near a board game cafe which is a lot of fun.
Hiking and camping is another passion of mine. We have hiked the majority of the Camino de Santiago in Spain (we didn't do the while thing as it turns out the hike itself was not that interesting and, seeing as we were not doing it for any religious reasons decided our time would be better spent in Portugal)
Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite authors are John Steinbeck, Hunter S Thompson, Douglas Coupland, Chuck Palinuck, James Frey, Neil Gaiman,
I also really enjoy graphic novels. My favourite being Ex Machina or Snowpeircer
Music: Alt J, Daughter,Kalle Mattson, Morceeba, Pink Floyd, AWOL Nation, Public Service Broadcasting, Xxanxx, The Dumplings, Courtney Barnett, Zero 7, Lemon Jelly, Jungle, The XX,
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Getting married in Iceland. My wife and I eloped. A photographer came with us and photographed us for a few days. It felt very pure. Not trying to have a large wedding for everyone but rather something that was just for us.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am always up for learning new recipes. I am not a great cook but I am working on it.
The teaching question is hard. Having a mild panic attack that I don't have any relevant transferable skills...... :p
