About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Redefining "odd behavior"- A month ago it meant leaving a good paying job to travel the world for a year... A month in, now it means spending 10 years busting my ass and only taking one real holiday... Time to play catch up as I start month 2...

ABOUT ME

What a great section, I guess I am... all about me. After 10+ years building a career in software sales, I've decided to take some time off and find out what I've been missing. So in a very simple way, this year plus trip around the world is all about me... and what do I want to do? Experience all the cool things that you can and many that you can't find printed in the guidebooks.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't sweat the petty stuff... and don't pet the sweaty stuff. (George Carlin)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a good even mix of healthy enthusiasm, curiosity, high self confidence/limited shame, the energy to keep up, the constitution to chill out, and the wherewithall to know when to mix in the right ingredients to make each experience a great one...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a newbie on the site but have been a active host and surfer long before I heard of this site. I recently had a buddy from Australia, that I met in the jungles of Peru, stay with me the "Americano" in my London flat for 2 months. Prior to that I've hosted in San Francisco, Miami, Boston, Boulder, and others as well as stayed in Dublin. I guess most of my experience has been hosting thus far so I'd like to see what surfing is all about.

Interests

I am equal parts all around sports guy, out doors guy, night time merrymaker, and when hosting a worthy cook. In short I can have fun doing anything...

Music, Movies, and Books

I am currently reading a biography on the late comedian Bill Hicks and have finished off Outliers by Gladwell (of Blink and The Tipping Point fame), and an Autobiogrphy by Anthony Keidis of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers fame called Scar tissue. All 3 re worthy books about great influencial people or times in our lives.

As far as music is concerned I travel with a jam packed 80GB iPod filled with an exclectic mix of all kinds of music. If I get tired of it I have another 300GBs in a hard drive I bring with me. I love listening to exlectic music on shuffle because you always hear ones you never have heard or rarely find their way into circulation...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently drove through the far corners of the Rep of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. It was amazing. I took nearly 600 photos, so that'll give you an idea how much there was to see and do in the month I was there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Many people know this already but it was new to me and kept me accident free through the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and a Scotland...Keep the white on your right.

I hadn't driven a car for a year and a manual transmission for easily 10 years when I rented a manual transmission car in Ireland where they drive on the opposite side of the road and consequently the steering wheel was on the opposite side of the car from what I am used to. Puting the Right/Wrong debate to the side for a moment I learned that if you "keep the White on your right" you should be okay. In Ireland and the UK the centerline is white and since you are driving on the left it is on your right. In America the outside line is white and since you drive on the right side of the road it is on your right.
