Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Leticia Meireles, is passionate about Social Responsibility. She has over ten years of experience in fundraising management, events planning and marketing communications in the non-profit sector. She is an active member of Toastmasters (Public Relations and PR trainer/Deputy Governor/Talk Show Co-Host); she is the author and editor of several newsletters (over 50,000 sent); she is the honorary spokeswoman for World Peace Prayer at Sokka Gakkai and she is very active in the San Diego community. She is also the founder and executive director of "Pinky $10,000 Campaign for my Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk" and she is currently speaking on several engagements with Toastmasters and Rotarian clubs about her three consecutive years campaign and fundraising expertise.

Communicating with people of diverse backgrounds is a big passion of mine! One of my most profound childhood memories is of gathering friends and playing a game I invented, called "statistics" –the game consisted of inquiring passer-bys about their views on controversial issues. In high school, while studying "Architecture/Civil Engineer", I exchanged common classes with other majors such as Mechanics, Electronics, Electrical Engineer, Industrial Design and Telecommunications. Taking strategically initiative again, I positioned myself to learn more about people around the world: 1) In college, I chose to study Tourism; 2) After graduation, I moved alone to United States seeking for different cultures; 3) I have since lived with people from: Brazil, Colombia, United States, Norway, Sweden, England, Germany, France, Italy, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan, etc; 4) I’ve been to South America, Africa, Asia and Europe; 5) Through my love of communicating, I learned conversational phrases in more than 15 languages. As a result, my international network has expanded to 5,000 people.

Volunteer Work: Iguaçu Falls Jamboree (Team outreach contacting 15,000 people from 150 countries to attend); American Cancer Society; Big Brothers Big Sisters; St. Jude’s Ranch; Head North; Home of Guiding Hands; Monarchy School; San Diego Rescue Mission; Ronald Mc Donald House; Red Cross; YWAM; Photo Charity; KPBS; STAR/PAL; Discover Pacific Beach; Pacific Beach Town Council; La Jolla Community Planning Association; La Jolla Pacific Beach Library; San Diego’s Children’s Coalition

Just a few ... most of my experiences were with surfers staying in my couch
