About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am seeking out a new home and meaningful work in food, books, and art.

ABOUT ME

I am an open-minded woman who loves great cities, art, books, gardens, and music. I am committed to home cooking and public transportation. I am fascinated by how things grow, die, rot, and grow again.

PHILOSOPHY

Born Baptist, married into the Quakers, chose the Buddhists.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have a home of my own right now, so I am looking to be a surfer. Later on, I hope to be a host and a guide to the museums in my new home city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had both good and bad experiences. I lived briefly with a friend who had a couple of couch surfers stay with her. One was a delightful woman, a physicist, who taught me a lot. The other was a thief who stole my friend's camera. So I am cautiously optimistic.

Interests

My personal interests have to do with learning how to make peace, health, and prosperity possible for myself and other people. My intellectual interests have to do with sensationalism in journalism --- both historically and in the present.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite living musicians are Tim O'Brien and anybody with a last name of Seeger or Guthrie. I studied classical music when I was a young person and still like to hear symphonies and operas when I am able to go. My favorite books are fiction by Robertson Davies or Dorothy Sayers; non-fiction works about history or social issues.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw the Obama inauguration, standing in the crowd near the Tuskegee Airmen with my nephew West. For once, the mass of participants and the reality of the day overwhelmed the sense of being an unpaid extra at a media event. I looked down the mall at more than a million people chanting O-BA-MA. I felt hopeful and happy and proud.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught the history of photography, art, architecture, and design. I know how to organize, research, write, and produce books. And I know how to raise vegetables and cook them. I can bake bread.
I'd like to learn how to produce and manage web sites at a professional level. (Beyond blogging.)
