About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel can help expose us to more cultures and experiences. This exposure can help us be more accepting of one another. And through acceptance we can become better people. And really, who doesn't want to be better? Even just a little?

ABOUT ME

I'm the product of a Swiss father and a Singaporean Chinese mother. I spent my early childhood in Europe and Southeast Asia as my dad climbed the corporate ladder. After a few years on the island of Guam, we moved to the continental United States where I lived in California, Colorado and Indiana.

After getting a journalism degree, I worked as a reporter in Colorado for several years, eventually moving on to newspaper advertising. I moved to South Korea in 2009 and spent 16 months teaching English. Since then, I've been on the road in Southeast Asia and Europe.

PHILOSOPHY

I never want to stop learning and growing as a person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted a few times, but as of September 2010, I'm hitting the road and hope to meet hundreds of surfers along the way!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first heard about CS in 2008 from a man who had traveled across a few states via bicycle with his English Golden Retriever in a little trailer. When I moved to South Korea, I discovered this network was global. I've had a great time hosting and hanging with the Busan, South Korea; Chiang Mai, Thailand and Bali, Indonesia CS groups!

Interests

A Colorado girl at heart, I love the outdoors, especially hiking, skiing and biking, or just sitting outside enjoying the breeze and sunshine. I've tried a few extreme sports and can't wait to try more.

A writer by trade, I love the written word and contributing to it. I love books, both fiction and non. I like movies and music, though I'm by no means an expert in either arena. Some favorites are Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino. I like everything from indi rock to bad Korean pop, but generally stay away from death metal.

I love a rowdy night on the town as much as a quiet night in. My drink of choice is a vodka martini, just a little dirty. My family, friends and dog, Belle, mean the world to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my earliest memories is of a beggar in Bangkok, where I used to live. The remains of his arms were wrapped in bloody, dirty rags, and he sat on the edge of a sidewalk next to six very busy lanes of traffic. It's not a terribly uplifting memory, but it reminds me to be compassionate and grateful for what I have.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've learned that you must be able to count on yourself because there are a lot of flaky people out there.

I've learned that most people are nice once you start a conversation.

I've learned that a language barrier will never stop a good time.

Geez, I've learned a ton and nothing at all ...
