About Me

To live, laugh and love!

I travel to learn about others. I jump and move from place to place every few years and want to find a way to live this way, forever. Dream job would be to travel from disaster to disaster with the Red Cross, help out where I can. I consider myself a stateless citizen, even if my passport says otherwise.

The only thing that matters is the here and now. Last week, last month doesn't matter as much as this moment. For all you history buffs out there, I am sure you will disagree, and you would be right! I love being proved wrong!
What goes around comes around. I live by the golden rule. I believe that there are great people around every corner with a story to share and I would love to hear them all!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

How I will participate...I will attend CS meetings in every city I am in, and if they are unavailable, or if the city is more of a town, try to organize some. Go out with people for coffee or a drink if they cannot host at the moment. And when I no longer nomadic, host as a habit.

The limited couchsurfing I have done has been a blast. It is so much fun hanging out with others and learning about their lives, loves, and views. I really wanted to host while living in San Jose, but it was already two living in a studio, and already cramped. I look forward to sharing with others and learning about people and their cultures through their eyes. If I could be from another culture, and fluent in the language for just one day, each country, for the rest of my life, I would be one happy gal. This is the closest thing to that dream, probably.

Camping under the stars, preferably car camping. Like backpacking too andI love hiking and biking as well. I try to buy almost everything second hand, and there are always treasures to be found at garage sales. I have had fun playing craps and blackjack in Vegas, and I love poker, but I would rather do almost anything else than sit at a slot machine. I enjoy large crowds, as much as I do solitude in the woods.

I am currently trying to learn all that I can worldwide about environmental engineering and fancy myself an environmental journalist of sorts.

Music, Movies, and Books

OK, I can admit it...I am a huge bibliophile. Always have been. Shantaram is by far my most favorite. Gregory David Roberts tells a true story about being on the run from Australia, ending up in India, where he still is. Others I have enjoyed: Three Cups of Tea, White Teeth, Life of Pi, Yann Martel, Daughter of Fortune, Special Topics in Calamity Physics, How Doctors Think, Culture Jam, Middlesex, Century of the Wind, Catfish and Mandala, A Widow for One Year, The Kite Runner, Toni Morrison, John Keats, Sarah Waters, Geoffrey Chaucer, The Long Night of White Chickens, A Fraction of the Whole.

As for movies, pretty much any movie about World War II strikes me. Here are some of my favs:
American History X, A Beautiful Life, The Counterfeiters, The Pianist, Saving Private Ryan, The Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, Seven Years in Tibet, It's a Wonderful Life. I must say I don't watch too many since I prefer to be camping, hiking, biking, pretty much anything outdoors.
Music: Harmonica tunes, Beck, Federico Aubele, Modest Mouse, Animal Collective, Neko Case, White Stripes, Radiohead.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the North winds on the shore of Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park when I worked there in 2005 is an experience I will never forget. Having my first impromptu Spanish conversation with a native speaker. Seeing the Leonid meteor shower. Almost dying while landing in Tokyo. Exploring Berlin. Getting dengue fever....just kidding.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make the perfect alcoholic drink with what you have on hand. I can teach you how to make the perfect omelette after a night out on the town. I may even be able to teach you how to buy a used bike, car, or find the perfect pet. I have never mastered the cartwheel, and I don't know how to juggle. And I can proofread your written English, but only if you want me to.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
