About Me

CURRENT MISSION

VIVA LA VIDA

ABOUT ME

How can I fit ALL about me on this tiny profile page, but I'll try my best to fill you in with the highlights of my life!

I have to start with saying that I like to believe myself as a true global citizen. I have traveled to many different countries around the world, but I also LIVED in many places of different cultures and lifestyle. My birthplace is Seoul, South Korea, but I have also lived in Moscow, Russia, and spent my later teen years in Baku, Azerbaijan. I now study architecture in the United States, and spent a semester in Barcelona, Spain.

I have seen and learned so much from all these fortunate opportunities and I am willing to learn so much more and also share others with what I have to offer.

For anyone who is curious enough, this is my humble blog on my study abroad experiences in Barcelona. It's not much, but if you are bored and have nothing better to do, why don't you check it out? It's only a click away! http://ysyang1213.tumblr.com/

PHILOSOPHY

This is a deep question, which must be reserved for real, face to face conversations. But I always remind myself of this: You will not regret for what you have done, but for what you haven't done.

You only have one life. Make it count!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I first heard about this CS project many years ago from a friend who is a very passionate, independent traveler. At first, I was not 100% confident about the idea. But this completely changed after my first CS surfing experience. The whole concept is brilliant and really makes the world a better place for everyone. CS is not just about sleeping at someone's place for free, but so much more. I have gone to CS weekly meetings in many cities wherever I was, and made many genuine friends from CS events. I really appreciate those who offer me their precious houses and hospitality while I'm on the road, and I really like to give something back!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since my first time couchsurfing in Chicago in the summer of 2011, I have received so much kindness and generosity from CS hosts from around the world. Because my first CS surfing was such a great experience that I had no reason not to do it again whenever I was out on the road! And surely enough, I’ve met some amazing people that I keep in touch even after the travels. Unfortunately, I haven't hosted anyone yet since I live in a college dorm, but I'm really hoping to become an active host someday!

Interests

Architecture is what I study in university as of now and I absolutely love it. I consider myself very lucky to have found something that I would love to do for the rest of my life. It's not the easiest studies, as they say, no pain, no gain.

Music is also a big part of my life. I listen to pretty much everything. I also play instruments like piano and guitar, which is one of the best activities that I can possibly do anytime, anywhere.

Sports, especially football (soccer in America) is my joy. I love playing and watching it. I can go on and on about my favorite team, players, events and all that good and bad stuff.

Lately, I've been picking up on sketching. I'm not a good drawer by any means, but I try and try, and it looks like my drawing skills are getting better and better. Sketching is such a great way to really understand and soak in what you see, and have much more interaction than taking a picture. One day, I would love to show you some of my sketches.

Music, Movies, and Books

This will be the one section that I won't spend my time on for two reasons.
1. There are too many to write them down.
2. They always change and re-change.

However I have to add that my all-time favorite band is Coldplay, whom I give my undying passion and love to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I always love to watch the stars, especially in the countryside where you can see lots! Watching them makes me realize how big the universe is, and yet how small I am in such a big world. Naturally, I leave my troubles behind for a moment, and just enjoy the starry night.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am absolutely an enthusiastic learner! I really love learning ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! If you have anything that you can teach me (even as strange as learning how to make a soup out of color pencils) you will have all my attention!

It's funny that I love learning, but I don't know if I have much to teach haha. But at the right moments, I like to share some useless piece of information of our world that you may or may not be interested. For example, what is the tallest mountain on the Earth? Mt. Everest? Nope. Think again. If you meet me, ask me for the answer!
