About Me

Hey, I'm a transfer student from the UK living I Japan for a year, currently studying at the University of Tokyo. I'm originally from near Cambridge, and studying at the University of Warwick.

I've been studying Japanese for 3 years, but I'm confident I can speak Japanese fluently at a conversational level, so please don't be afraid if you aren't comfortable using English. Of course, I've still got a long way to go, though. よろしく!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I might not be the most passionate when it comes to travelling itself, but I'm always really excited to meet new people from all sorts of backgrounds, and passionate for Japan itself. I want to travel all across Japan and experience all kinds of different situations, foods, views, and people! My friend recommended this website to me as a great way to do that, and I would love to be able to give that chance to other people as well.

I've also hosted many Japanese friends in the UK during their study abroad and enjoyed learning more about their culture, as well as sharing my own. The look of surprise on someone's face when you teach them something new is priceless xD

Interests

I love Japanese comedy, so I joined the Manzai circle at Tokyo University, but I would also like to try Japanese cultural clubs like Sadou.

I'm also a huge fan of J-rock and Karaoke, and I love spending way too much time and money on them both!

I like playing video games too, so I also really enjoy Japanese game centers, and would definitely enjoy going with Couchsurfers.

Music, Movies, and Books

If it's Japanese bands, I really like Radwimps, One OK Rock, Maximum the Hormone, SiM and Crossfaith. Other than that, I really like American rock bands like 30 Seconds to Mars, Mayday Parade and so on.

My favourite movies are comedies, like Dodgeball (might explain why I like Japanese comedy), but I also like action and adventure films based on comics, like Batman or Spiderman. I'm always looking for new music and media to fill my time with.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As part of the Tokyo U manzai circle, I actually got the chance to perform during the Komaba festival! You can check that out here (there's a skip button):

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to be able to share all kinds of experiences and advice with hosts. I actually started a vlog of my life in Japan (which you can find by following the link above) which probably helps to explain my passion for teaching my friends and family all about what I've learned so far from being in Japan.

Also, if you've ever wondered how to throw a frisbee with your forehand or over your head, I can show you =P
