About Me

Hi. I'm Jesus Guzman. I like machines and that's why I studied computer science -- to learn to control the robots of the future ;]

I'm currently living in Berlin and would like to meet new people in new places. My newest hobby is cycling since it involves man on machine. :) I'm learning German and can speak a tiny bit of French but English and Spanish are my native languages.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to meet new people and see new cities and towns.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie of all time is James Cameron's Avatar. The visuals are stunning but what drew me in was the storyline: imperialism set in some alternate universe in the near future depicting mankind's voracious appetite for energy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I flew a small plane over the San Francisco Bay Area. Just gotta keep the nose pointing to the horizon :]

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd gladly teach you some linguistics and cool facts about computer science.

Here's a fun theoretical proof:

Every computer program can be expressed as a string but not all strings are valid programs. So we can say the number of computer programs is at most the number of strings (1).

Let's define a problem as determining whether a string possesses some property. Some strings have length greater than 100, some are valid C++ programs, others are legally binding contracts, etc. We can define a property as the set of strings of which all contain said property. So for every possible set of strings, there is some problem that can is solved. But since not all problems are solvable with strings, the number of problems must thus be greater than or equal to the number of sets of strings. Expressed differently, there are more problems than sets of strings (2).

From Cantor’s theorem (http://platonicrealms.com/encyclopedia/Cantors-Theorem), the number of subsets of a set is strictly greater than the number of elements in said set (even for infinite sets). So the number of subsets of strings is more than the number of strings. Combining this fact with (2), the number of problems to solve is greater than the number of strings (3).

But since the number of computer programs is at most the number of possible strings (from 1) and we have more problems than possible strings (from 3), we thus have more problems than are solvable with a computer program. So computer programs cannot solve all possible problems. Hurray! A.I. overlords can’t possibly reign supreme (unless N proves to be the same as NP, in which case I’d just wear a Faraday cage hat).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make breakfast, ride my bike with you, offer you Netflix. My place is just a couch to sleep on in my bedroom. I have bed sheets and toiletries you can use. Of course you are welcome to use the kitchen and bathroom. (Make me some food please!). I have one flatmate with whom I share the apartment. He's chill.

My address is Köpenicker Landstraße 124, 12437 Berlin. The nearest train station is Plänterwald. For local transport, look no further than here: https://shop.bvg.de/index.php/tickets. There you can check ticket prices and buy them upon arrival at any train station. I recommend Apple maps for transit navigation.

For any questions or concerns, you may reach me at esprit_de_vie@icloud.com (works with email, iMessage texts, and FaceTime Audio/Video).

Thanks,
Jesus Guzman, Jr.

P.S. I'm cheap and have decided not to pay to verify my profile. I hope that's not an encumbrance for you.
