I was born in South Carolina and moved to Bucharest when I was four. I lived there until completing high school in 2010. Since graduating from Davidson College in North Carolina in 2014 with a major in political science, I've made a living writing for different travel magazines, city magazines, and news websites in India, Turkey, and the US. I'm not on Facebook, but you can learn more about me at my blog, jcoxjourno [dot] com. As of June 25 2015, I will be living in P'nom Penh and working for an English-language daily newspaper.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
I enjoy travel, but I'm no millionaire and even cheap hostels can begin to add up after a while. Couchsurfing is a much more economical alternative. Aside from the price, I'm excited by the chance to meet new people who can show me a city from a resident's perspective, instead of just relying on maps, tripadvisor, and information bureaus.
I love hiking, jazz, chess, playing blues guitar, running, and eating good food. I spend a fair amount of time on itch.io checking out independent video games, and enjoy playing board games. I also enjoy making woodcuts. When I'm not in the mood to do anything productive, you can find me sprawled on a couch somewhere reading a book.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
My musical obsessions change from day to day, but right now I'm listening to a lot of Spoon, Drive By Truckers, Elliot Smith, Oscar Peterson, The Magnetic Fields, Sleater Kinney, and Metric. I love classical music and jazz, but I'm also happy to crank up the Taylor Swift from time to time. I'm a pretty omnivorous movie-watcher, and I love everything from The Muppets Treasure Island to Tarkovsky's Solaris. I have a softness for animation and stop-motion, so I really admire Terry Gilliam, Ray Harryhausen, and Yuri Norshtein. Of more recent movies, I recently saw Ex Machina and It Follows, and thought they were both magnificent. I'm currently reading the third book in the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, and recently finished 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke. Other writer crushes of mine include Kazuo Ishiguro, Henry Miller, and George Orwell.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
Not sure if this qualifies as "amazing," but I spent two months in Hyderabad in India in 2013 writing about a health insurance program for the Pulitzer Center and the New York Times. It was a great opportunity to meet fascinating people, eat amazing food, and ride through crazy traffic and monsoon rain on the back of a motorscooter.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
This section heading sounds deep but I'm not sure what it means. If anyone wants to talk about Linux, Python programming, Django, and applications of programming to the news industry, these are topics that I'm currently studying and would love to learn more about.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
I have a pretty extensive collection of knock-knock jokes that I can deliver on command. I love to cook, and would be delighted to pull together a good meal or bake some bread with my hosts. I enjoy writing limericks, so if hosts want to be paid in limericks that can be arranged :). And if you want to quote Monty Python sketches with someone, I'm your man.
