About Me

Hey everyone, my name is Thérése and I live in the South West of Ireland. I'm currently a student, hoping to major in Politics with a minor degree in History. After my degree, have no idea what career path I want to take but I definitely know that I'll need to take some time out to travel independently for a while !

I used to be shy when I was younger and am now transitioning into a rather contemplative thinker with a more confident voice. I love having discussions on various topics from current affairs to films but can be obstinate in my thinking. The most important thing to know about me is that at heart I am a complete daydreamer yet I can still maintain a healthy sense of levelheadedness. A bit of a strange mix but essentially that's me.

Most importantly I think however, I should state that I don't constantly talk in such an exclaimed voice, I just overuse exclamation marks in text !

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here because travelling has always been such a huge interest of mine as well as meeting new people. Currently, I'm on the cusp of moving out of home for the first time in my life so am completely ready to start having a lot of important life experiences. I may have been quite Eurocentric in my travels so far but I really hope that changes !

Interests

Binge watching television such as House of Cards, The Killing, American Horror Story, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, reading, playing traditional music and the piano every now and then are among some of my interests. I feel like I should say something like I partake in power gliding and croquet every week but life is even more exciting for me, I have farm animals for company.

I would also add eating carambars but to me it's more of an experience, have an irrational obsession with them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Is there a limit of characters for this because this might take a while ! With regards to music, my taste varies, I love Years & Years, Lorde, Paramore Imagine Dragons, Haim, London Grammar, Ingrid Michaelson, M83 but I love listening to some folk music and composers like Hans Zimmer and Michael Giachino. To be honest, I just listen to a wide variety of genres, just has happy to listen to Mumford and Sons as I would be listening to the Super 8 Original Score. More recently I've been rekindling my love of Abba and and 80's rock music !

I love most movies with Joseph Gordon Levitt in it, my favourite being 500 days of summer but I also really like Schindler's List, any Christopher Nolan film I've seen, In Bruges Calvary, Drive, Super 8, The Place Beyond the Pines, Oldboy ( South Korean version) , Let Me In among many more films that I currently am drawing a blank on. I must also admit that horror films are kind of a guilty pleasure for me ( I can't explain why I rewatch the Scream and Final Destination series ) as well as any Disney Pixar film.

I love Gillian Flyn as an author with the exception of her endings. Also recently enjoyed Tom Rob Smith's trilogy of Russian thrillers based on the character of Leo Demidov, and The Girl on the Train.I must admit that I love the thriller genre but also would thoroughly recommend Cloud Atlas, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and We need to talk about Kevin. Without question, To Kill a Mockingbird is novel I will always cherish.A song of Ice and Fire is probably my favourite series of books but A series of Unfortunate Events was the series of childhood, some day, I hope to get a VFD tattoo !

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked 26 kilometres over 3 days once in Kerry after having back surgery months before and conquering my fear of heights is ongoing. I really hope to achieve more in my life though !

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you become fluent in English, if you're already fluent I can teach you some colloquial phrases that will help you if you ever find yourself in Ireland.

I would love to learn about different cultures and maybe pick up some phrases from a new language.

I can share many glorious aspects of my culture, and give you amazing recipes for Scones, Brown Soda Bread and Lemon Cupcakes. I think it's better to perfect just a select number of recipes. Also, my baking and cooking skills are just extremely limited.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a cúpla focail as Gaeilge, introduce you to traditional Irish music ( not really something I listen to or play anymore but was a huge interest of mine in school ), maybe some famous delicate cuisines such as Tayto's crisps if I can bring it in my suitcase and yeah, just my presence if you can tolerate it :p
