Although we have traveled to 24 countries so far, 21 of these visits have always been quick vacations where you jam in as many tourist sites as possible over a few days.
In 2016, this is going to be different. Together with my husband Schalk, we want to take our time to get to know a place and its people, and immerse ourselves into the daily comings and goings, and make meaningful connections.
We have both been working in corporate environments, and this radicle change is sure to be interesting. We are used to our comforts and routines with very little spontaneity, so having a loose travel plan will put our relationship and sanity to the test.
The first destination we tackled from February 2016 was Vietnam and spent 35 days in this amazing country. Read some of the blog posts about our stay in Vietnam on http://nowhereip.blogspot.com. We then headed to Cambodia for most of March. After a short stop in Singapore, we went to India and Nepal and in May are heading to Italy.
We want to travel in Europe for three months before going to the USA, followed by Central and South America. However, the trip may look quite different depending on our ability to stick to our budget, secure freelance work, obtain visas and adapt to a new lifestyle.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It is obviously a way to save some money on accommodation so that we can travel for even longer, but most importantly a place is much richer if you spend time with its people. Couchsurfing gives us this opportunity and we hope to meet some interesting people and share interesting stories.
Travelling, writing, photography and marketing (particularly digital marketing). I love reading and meeting new people from different backgrounds.
Music, Movies, and Books
Love some good rock music or alternative rock, but will listen to the classics or the popular hits on the radio. One of my favourite books is A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini and I can watch Forest Gump over and over.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have been very lucky to do some amazing stuff. Most recently in Nepal was white water rafting and a scenic flight over Mt Everest - but most of my time is not spent quite so adventurously.
Teach, Learn, Share
I first hope to learn from others, but am willing to share what I have learned through my studies, work and travelling.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Some good conversation and a visitor who will take the same care and respect with your home as they would with their own home. We are easy going and don't need you to change your routine to accommodate us.
