Hello everybody!

Our names are Shawn MacNeil and Ayu Hiroshima and we are both new to this site and are intrigued by the concept, we've decided to jump in head first. We both love travelling and exploring and love to engage in new cultures, experiences and perspectives. We also live modestly and try to live a healthy lifestyle. We are new to couch surfing and are looking to explore and help others explore Toronto (we both are planning to move to Japan At the end of 2017 where we also hope to host people). We are thoughtful, caring people who enjoy to laugh and always try to stay positive.

About Ayu: From Sapporo which is located on the northern Island of Japan called Hokkaido. Really enjoys engaging with animals, especially dogs. Also loves to laugh and stay positive. Really love's winter and everything associated with it. A very avid traveler who tries to travel annually to a winter destination with family. (favorites were Bruges. Stockholm and Yellowknife). Living in Toronto for the past two years to learn/practice English. Really enjoy's hot drinks (Chai, hot apple cider, coffee, etc.). Loves writing thoughts down daily and reflecting the day. A little bit shy, but opens up when comfortable. Worked in the hospitality industry for most of life.

About Shawn: From Toronto, Canada. Really open minded and enthusiastic. Enjoys both playing and watching pretty much every sport(not familiar with cricket or rugby) especially hockey, basketball, baseball and football(both). Is more on the adventurous side and tries to make people smile and laugh. 420 friendly(Ayu not so much). Loves beer, especially local craft beer. Hasn't travelled nearly as much as Ayu (never left North America). Also works in hospitality industry.

We both love trying different cuisine's from around the world and love spicy food(esp. Shawn). We also like to meet strangers and talk about a wide range of topics. We enjoy hiking/wandering around both urban areas and rural areas and love "getting lost" in a new city. We try to give off positive energy at all times and go with the flow.

We feel as though couch surfing allows you to help someone out or get helped out by a stranger(pay it forward mentality). We find this is not only economically efficient but it also allows travelers to really get an understanding of other cultures, ways of life, perspective and unlike a hotel you can really absorb and appreciate how day to day life takes place in a visiting city so that all resources can go to maximizing your experience with a city/region.

Ayu really enjoy a wide variety of music from Japanese, top 40, etc.

Shawn also enjoys a mixture of music, everything from hip hop to classic rock. Also appreciates some classical and jazz. Not the biggest fan of country music.

Ayu really enjoys romantic comedies and absolutely dislikes horror movies.

Shawn really enjoys thrillers, suspenseful movies that leave you on the edge of your seat. Three favorites are The Usual Suspects, The Shawshank Redemption and 12 Monkeys.

Ayu really enjoys reading fictional novels as well as cookbooks of all sorts.

Shawn really enjoys reading just about anything of interest, wide variety from psychology, philosophy, sports, etc.

Ayu can teach Japanese language, japanese food, etc.

Shawn can teach basic English (if needed) and engage in philosophical and psychological discussions.
