Overview
About Me
I have worked in the field of conservation biology for 20 years, and although I have a passion for what I do, I find that I am working too much. In an effort to rebalance my life, I am trying to devote more time to my personal interests, and I am indulging my sense of wanderlust by elevating travel among my priorities.
I love the outdoors, especially starkly beautiful landscapes, but my favorite trips are those that blend cultural experiences and time in nature. For me, both are significant to a sense of place.
About my personality, I consider myself a bit of an introvert, though I enjoy meeting people and engaging in conversation about a wide range of topics. I am independent and sometimes a little too self-reliant 😉; travel challenges this by sometimes putting me in situations where I need to rely on others a bit (at least for information 😉). I especially enjoy the way travel exposes me to different perspectives and makes me question any preconceptions I still have about life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am totally new to Couchsurfing, and I noticed that I am a few decades older than the average surfer 😮, maybe because my main goal in life when I was a student was to retain a bit of the vagabond lifestyle and mindset as long as I could 😉. Well, it partially worked - mindset remains.
I am here because I want to connect with locals in the places I visit and would like to return the favor someday. Also, it is a small act of rebellion on my part against the the unintended consequences paid alternatives like Airbnb have had on communities like mine (making home prices unaffordable and turning some neighborhoods into tourist sleepover spots that then lose their community feel [sorry for this negative comment, Airbnb aficionados 😉]).
