About Me

Hi. I am Joon Suh Park from Seoul, South Korea. I usally go by ‘Joon.’ I am on my first round the world trip for six months! I am a translator/research assistant, working mostly in the field of cultural anthropology, which I majored in college. I am trying my best to travel in a sustainable, eco-friendly way, and also to respect every person i meet from every city and culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I heard great things about Couchsurfing from my friends. I always try to meet more locals when I travel, since I believe it’s the people not the ‘landmarks’ that make great cites great.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Every genre, especially contemporary Jazz. ECM would be my favorite label. I also dig a lot of Indie Rock and New York Punk too. Big fan of Radiohead, Pet Shop Boys, Talking Heads, and many more. I’ve been listening to The National, Timber Timbre, and Bill Callahan quite a lot during my travels.
Movies - Korean independent films, Richard Linklater, Greta Gerwig, Michel Gondry, The Florida Project, Little Miss Sunshine.
Books - I am carrying two paperbacks with me right now. One is a Korean poetry by Heo Soo Kyung, and the other is ”Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino. I love those “magical realism” novels by Gabreil Garcia Marquez and Salman Rushdie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rescued my cat Maru when he was a kitten, drowning in the streams. We’ve been living together for 8 years since.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Korean, Korean culture and current affairs in far east Asia.
I would love to learn the local language of where I am traveling, along with the culture and current political issues of the country too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great time together. Music recommendations. Basic guitar lessons. Epic failure stories during my travels(?)
