Overview
About Me
I'm from the US, but living in Peru for a couple of years. I'm an accountant, but while I'm living out of the country, I'm teaching English for Euroidiomas en Lima. I live out the central highway in a town called Chaclacayo, in a housing development along the Rimac river. I trek around the Andes frequently, and find amazing places, traces of the Incas and Pre-Incas, and build memories that will last a lifetime. As a businessman, and a native English speaker, all of my students are business professionals. They are excited about my upcoming trip, and want me to turn the fake background off in my teams meetings so they can see my surroundings as I explore the Amazon on my upcoming trip. I've told them that we are eternal students, and the world is our classroom. In this case, it literally is :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Since I teach English virtually, I'm taking a trip from Iquitos, Peru to Macapa, Brazil down the Amazon River, then doing an overland route through French Guiana, Surinam, and Guyana, and back to Manaus by bus, where I'll catch a flight to Tabatinga, BR, a boat back to Iquitos, and my flight home to Lima. I have flexibility in my schedule, but am traveling on a budget, so I'm hoping to couch surf to make it affordable. Along the way, I'll head into the jungle on my non workdays and stay in native communities, either on someone's floor, or in a hammock. I'll make canoe trips, fish for my dinner, trade for traditional crafts, feed baby manatees, interact with the animals in rescue centers, and make friends and swap stories along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books
So much good music out there. My list continues to grow as I travel...I'd love to share playlists!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Overcame socioeconomic disadvantage with 12 brothers and sisters in a rural US farm town, working my way through college to eventually become an international tax accountant in New York City.
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach:
English conversation skills: As an online ESL teacher, I can help with casual practice, pronunciation tips, or even quick lesson plans tailored to your goals. Perfect if you're prepping for travel, work, or just chatting with folks from afar—let's make it fun and interactive!
Budget backpacking hacks: From scoring homestays and catching your own dinner (Amazon fish grills are a game-changer) to navigating river boats on a shoestring, I can share insider tricks for deep-jungle adventures without breaking the bank.
Learn:
Your city’s hidden corners: Best late-night spots, free riverfront hangouts, or the safest way to the market at 5 a.m. Show me the real rhythm of your city!
Hidden cultural gems: I'd love to pick up phrases in local languages, hear oral histories from your family, or learn about your life.
Share:
Travel tales and photos: Over cheap street eats or a shared meal (I'll contribute what I catch or cook), I can swap epic stories—like swimming with manatees in Iquitos or trekking to remote parts of Peru. I've got a knack for turning mishaps into laughs.
Cultural swaps: Let's exchange stories from our worlds—nothing touristy, just real vibes). I'd love to swap playlists. If you're up for it, we could chill and share our favorite songs.
I'm all about a genuine exchange—no agendas, just curiosity and good energy. If you're into nature, stories, or exploring off the grid, or around the city we'll click. What's one thing you'd want to teach a wandering soul like me? Looking forward to connecting!
What I Can Share with Hosts
🌆 Practical stuff
Stable Wi-Fi evenings Tue–Fri off and on between 7:00 and 9 pm (I teach online, so I’ll bring my own hotspot).
I’m up early for coffee, can grab fresh bread/fruit from the market on my way back.
🍴 Food & cooking
I’ll buy cheap river fish or chicken at the market, season with whatever’s in your pantry, and cook on your stove/balcony.
🗣️ Skills & stories
15–20 min English practice any evening (slang, job interviews, or whatever you're interested in).
Phone full of jungle pics & 1-minute stories – pink dolphins, midnight boat rides, fighting for a hammock spot on a crowded boat.
Travel hacks – how to find the best deals when looking for adventures.
🎁 Tiny authentic swaps (nothing from shops)
Hand-written recipe card from the last village I stayed in.
A cool bus ticket, seed pod, or river pebble I picked up on the way.
I’m tidy, wash my plate, and leave before noon on checkout day. All I ask is a corner for my hammock or floor mat and a plug for work. Let’s trade one small thing from our daily lives – what’s yours? 🚤
