We love couchsurfing and the people it has brought into our lives! We are a young couple, and love to travel. Laina grew up in the mountains of Idaho and Nick in the forests of Southern Connecticut. We both attended university in Hawaii, were we met and our couchsurfing story began. There we lived in a crazy community house full of life, adventure and friends. Since then we have started traveling the world, visited and lived in many places. We finally settled and got jobs here, in Kailua Kona! Nick is working as a class teacher in a public Waldorf school, and Laina is a full time homemaker!
We are trying to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment while we create our own philosophy of life. Our philosophy is always changing. We know we want to live as sustainably as possible, always travel and live in a community environment. We are also trying to make a difference in this world.
The ideas we have for the future paths of our life are to work with organic farms, teach children, encourage sustainability, and start a family. If you have experience in any of these areas, we would love to meet you!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We love to share our roof with travelers, and show them around wherever it is that we are. Hosting has really changed our lives and opened up the world to us. We believe that the couchsurfing community is helping to make the world a better place.
In the past eight years we have hosted and surfed with many couchsurfers from all over the world, and many of them have become good friends that we hope to have our whole lives.
Wild harvest and foraging, gardening, traveling, countryside, cooking on a wood stove, sustainability, teaching, playing music, friends, family, swimming, food, reading, ukulele, guitar, permaculture, chickens, goats, herbalism, plants, the ocean, mountains, scuba diving, biking, hiking, macheteing, home-brewing, camping, sprouting grains and beans, as well as any other out-doorsy funness. We also like hanging out and just "talking story" with interesting people. Of course we like dancing and riding bikes barefoot.

Music, Movies, and Books
We pretty much love all music. From Chiwoniso to Zee Avi to Herbie Hancock to Stevie Ray Vaughan to Zeca Pagodinho to The Be Good Tanyas, Vicente Fernandez, Ruben Blades, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, The Police, Old Crow Medicine Show, and so much more.
We are big into music, books and people and are always looking for new of each.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We had the most incredible wedding, an insane week long celebration with friends, couchsurfers, and family.
The most amazing thing that we have probably done is helping to build an exciting community within our little Hawaiian house; Full of puppies, gardens, musics, food, fun and people!
We have also had amazing experiences volunteering!

Right now we are trying to learn to sing! Especially good songs for walking/hiking.
We are also trying to learn how to live more sustainably and want to become more experienced in permaculture and living in intentional communities.
