I try to be the change I'd like to see in the world.
Earnest but wicked sense of humour. Contrarian, but not in an asshole kind of way.
I have two rabbits which will be a constant source of delight to you if you meet them.
I started a Small Plot Intensive farm in my front and back yard in Montreal last summer (2012), but nature did not cooperate with me and the harvest was small. I try every year.
One must strive for goodness in intent, in action, in form, and in results. One often fails at at least one. Predicting the point of failure quickly enough is the way to minimize the damage done - but sometimes, a good big failure is what a situation calls for.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love this network and the idea behind it, it has really opened the world and made things possible for all of us. The generosity of people is so astounding it should be as expected, and that goes far beyond opening their homes to a sleeper.
I try to participate in things to a 1:1 ratio and I suspect that the balance is still owing on my side, so if you think we're a match, then don't be afraid to ask to stay here (only, please don't suggest I am an "open-minded" person, because 4/5 surfers say that by default and you know, if your mind is too open, your brain falls out. I have some very definite opinions).
If you want someone to join you for coffee or a walkabout, please ask - and ask again when you are actually here - I've been invited to have a coffee by people before they arrive, and then I don't think to follow up.]
If I don't get back to you, it is probably just a feeling of match degree, or else a potential conflict of schedules. And this is true: Sometimes I will only reply at the last minute (a few days before) when I know that my schedule is actually clear.
I love practical crafts and home improvement that isn't grounded in pursuit of status or the acquisition of more. Simplicity is my pursuit - and Necessity is the mother of Invention. Oh, I am so Danish. And transparency was a Lutheran invention, while I'm at it.
- track and field
Music, Movies, and Books
Everybody should read Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. Birds Without Wings, by Louis de Bernières. The Limits to Growth: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Limits_to_Growth. You can find me on GoodReads.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sailed the Aegian sea.
Caught a rainbow - or rather, ran right through it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I will show you how to make vegetarian options for all your favourite meat dishes (except for offal, though I have seen veggie liverwurst in Denmark). I want to show people how to reduce their consumption in manageable ways, because what you eat and otherwise consume has an effect on the lives of others.
There's a chick in NYC who has managed, over the past two years or so (2015 article) to reduce her personal waste to _zero._ Personally and with the help of guests, I produce 1 bag of garbage per month. I also am on track for using m more likely to ask others their thoughts than expound upon mine.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Help in getting something done. Because sometimes, help is what you need. And I'd rather be remembered as someone who helped someone do something than someone who was just fun to be around. Though I am still fun.
